In fact, there are many forms of spiritual and mystical rituals which are abiding and unabiding to the Islamic law. As rituals in silat also embrace certain spiritual and mystical elements that are recommended by the silat associations, a specific study on this matter is crucial. This article intends to explore the concept of spiritual and mystical rituals practiced in Malay martial arts (Silat), specifically in Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Malaysia (PSSCM). This qualitative study is developed based on library research data. The study finds that the spiritual and mystical rituals in PSSCM are unique and distinctively based on the traditional method passed-down by all the Guru Utama. The study yields that there are no element of mysticism which is inconsistent to the Islamic principles in the Malay silat rituals. Moreover, the rituals are practiced with the aim of preserving and safeguarding the religion of Islam, soul, intellect, descendent and properties which are in line with the maqasid syariah.     View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE Political Islam in Malaysia: The Rise and Fall of Al Arqam Sharifah Zaleha Syed Hassan Introducton Islamic resurgence of the 1970s was undeniably an important force that generated new currents of political Islam in Malaysia. New Islamist organisations that were critical of the West and existing political status quo emerged on the political landscape calling for the construction of a new social order based on Islamic morality and laws. Although they shared the common belief that the Quran, hadith and Islamic theological treatises could provide the necessary guidelines to build such a society, these organisations differed markedly in their answers to the question of what constituted a contemporary Islamic society and the strategies they adopted for the realisation of that society. The strategies ranged from the construction of Islamic perspectives to comprehend reality and human problems to the formation of loosely structured congregational groups or jemaah to help forge moral solidarity among Muslims in and outside Malaysia. On the Malaysian political scene, these organisations vied with two Malay dominated political parties, the United Malays National Organisation or UMNO and the Islamic Party of Malaysia (Parti Islam Se Malaysia) or PAS which had been championing Islam in the country. The competition was not without consequences for their role, identity and survival as political actors. Some organisations rose to become influential pressure groups while others were forced out of the political arena. One of the new Islamist organisations that met a sad ending was Jemaah Darul Arqam or Al Arqam, in short.

It is the focal point of the life of every muslim. As such, the administration of masjid acts as its backbone and plays a vital role in ensuring the purpose of the masjid is holistic and comprehensive in reaching the community, including the interest of children. Their needs must be fulfilled spiritually, physically, and socially. This study aims to identify the perceptions of the masjid's administrator on children at the masjid. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview. Nine representatives from nine masjids in the Peninsular Malaysia (7 in Kuala Lumpur, 1 in Selangor and 1 in Pahang) were interviewed. The NVivo software was used to analyse the in-depth interview data to explore and understand the issues and challenges of handling the masjid's community socially and physically when it comes to having children at the masjid, as well as initiatives taken by the masjid's administration in accommodating children at the masjid. The findings suggest that the masjid's administrators are optimistic towards the presence of children in the masjid but faced some challenges - physically and socially. Some of the masjids are in the process of realising the children-friendly masjid aspirations. They provide spaces and activities/programmes for children in the masjid.

Roff khusus pada era pasca merdeka (1960an-1990an). Kajian ini mengguna pakai kaedah kualitatif. Kajian ini mengguna pakai metodologi pengumpulan data perpustakaan yang sebahagian besarnya bergantung kepada sumber primer dan sebahagianya lagi adalah sumber sekunder. Dalam metodologi penganalisan data, umumnya kajian ini menggunakan kaedah pensejarahan dan analisis kritikal bagi menganalisis data mengenai pandangan perkembangan aliran pemikiran Islam terutamanya melalui aliran pemikiran kaum tua dan kaum muda. Kaedah perbandingan pula diaplikasikan terhadap perkembangan aliran pemikiran Islam sejak dari era abad ke 19 dan 20 sehingga kepada kemuncak perkembanganya pada tahun 1960an sehingga 1990an. Manakala kaedah analisis kandungan pula digunakan secara umumnya pada hampir keseluruhan data yang dikutip. Penemuan dapatan kajian ini menyimpulkan bahawa perkembangan aliran pemikran Islam kaum tua dan kaum muda pada abad ke 19 dan awal abad ke 20 terus relevan semasa era pasca merdeka (1960an-1990an).
