CHAPTER I SAFETY RECORD OF INDIAN RAILWAYS 1.1 Indian Railways is the largest railway network under a single management in the world. Nearly 18 million passengers were booked daily and 804.11 million tonnes of freight traffic was loaded during the year. With such a massive utilisation of assets, safety is of paramount importance for operational efficiency. A very high priority is accorded to safety to enable Railways to achieve still greater heights of performance. Consequential Train Accidents 1.3 The term ‘accident’ envelopes a wide spectrum of occurrences with or without significant impact on the system. Consequential train accidents include mishaps with serious repercussion in terms of loss of human life or injury, damage to railway property or interruption to rail traffic of laid down threshold levels and values. This paper has been prepared by focusing on the service processes provided by ‘THE PALACE ON WHEELS’, a pioneer of luxury train travel in India. It analyses the existing service blueprint from tourism and travel industry and recommends how to enhance the quality service as well as efficiency level. This service includes both the sections of Industry i.e. travel and tourism. Based on the customer reviews and feedback of the Palace on Wheels, a new service blueprint has been designed which shows the present and potential flaws in the existing process. We have enhanced the Minimum Support Price and did take a decision to provide an amount of Rs.6000/- to each and every farmer under Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana irrespective of the parcel of land under his possession and have brought it into force. On the coast a rash of little-trodden beaches and collapsing forts give Goa’s tropical dreams a run for their money and in the hills of the Western Ghats, morning mists lift to reveal stupen- dous views and colonial-flavoured hill stations. But it’s the centre, with its treasure house of architectural and artistic wonders (topped by the World Heritage–listed cave temples of Ellora and Ajanta), that really steals the show. Whatever way you look at it, Maharashtra is one of the most vibrant and rewarding corners of India, yet despite this, most travellers make only a brief artistic pause at Ellora and Ajanta before scurrying away to other corners of India, leaving much of this diverse state to the explorers. -
