Apuntes para una historiografía de la arqueología en la ciudad de Guadix (Granada). Entre los mitos y la realidad Antonio López García* y Antonio Reyes Martínez** * Real Academia de España en Roma **LAAC (Laboratorio de Arqueología y arquitectura de la ciudad. Granada) 1. La Historiografía de Guadix La ciudad de Guadix se sitúa al Noreste de la provincia de Granada y actualmente es la cabecera comarcal de un territorio del que forman parte 32 municipios. Desde el punto de vista geográfico la ciudad se sitúa en una de las hoyas que conforman la cadena de depresiones que se intercalan en las Cordilleras Béticas y está circundada por Sierra Nevada, la Sierra de Baza, Sierra Arana y el Mencal. Su altitud media, próxima a los 950 metros, que le da ese carácter de altiplanicie. Esta zona reúne en una escasa franja territorial gran cantidad de yacimientos arqueológicos que arrancan desde la Prehistoria y cuyo fulgurante pasado llamó tempranamente la atención de los investigadores, especialmente desde el siglo XVI hasta la actualidad. Fray Diego de Guadix (Moreno 2007) es uno de estos primeros autores que analiza con cierto detenimiento la historia de Guadix en su famoso diccionario de arabismos de 1593. El profundo conocimiento que este franciscano posee sobre Guadix se explica por ser su ciudad natal y el lugar en el que vivió parte de su vida como religioso. A partir de este momento encontrarnos citas, descripciones, alusiones e interpretaciones más o menos extensas sobre Guadix, procedentes de viajeros, geógrafos, historiadores y eruditos en general, que con mayor o menor fortuna tratan de analizar la historia de Guadix basado en el puzle compuesto por epígrafes, monedas, cerámicas, restos arqueológicos en general o citas de escritores latinos y árabes. -

The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation. -

Reading and Writing Gellius: The Act of Composition in the Attic Nights by Austin Chapman M.A. (Classics, University of Cincinnati) B.A. (History, Furman University) A Dissertation Presented to the FACULTY OF THE GRADUATE SCHOOL UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (CLASSICS) Committee Chair: Holt Parker, Ph.D. September 2015 Abstract Here I argue that Gellius uses the loose design of his Attic Nights to interact both playfully and instructively with his reader, and that he does so in such a way that the purpose of the Nights is found to be reproductive, replicating the activities of its author (Gellius) in the minds and, ideally, the activities of its readers. To demonstrate how Gellius creates this unique author-reader relationship as the ordo of the text unfolds, I read the Nights sequentially. In close readings of three books of the Attic Nights (Books 1, 2, and 14), I explore how Gellius develops themes over the course of each book and uses those themes to articulate his relationship with the reader. In order to pick out sequences that supply meaning to a sequential reading of such an apparently disordered text, I take advantage, at least initially, of the approach of Gibson and Morello (2012) to the Letters of Pliny the Younger, where a multitude of units (epistles, in Pliny’s case) are placed so as to appear well-mixed but also create sequences in which certain patterns emerge, suggesting a loose design. Following Gibson and Morello’s model, I begin by noticing a more-or-less obvious pattern in Book 2 and “re-read” the book with that pattern in mind; through that re-reading, I discover that Gellius highlights a father-son relationship as an analogue for the relationship between himself and his reader. -

Julio Gómez Villar Universidad de Valladolid Resumen Se ha llegado a decir que la documentación aportada por los escritores de la Antigüedad está llena de errores y contradicciones (se ha llegado a decir incluso que no hubo celtas en la península), el trabajo pretende hacer entender que no hubo tantos errores ni contradicciones, el problema reside en el uso del lenguaje, ya que las palabras cambian de significado en función al criterio que se emplee, hay historiadores que están mas preocupados por utilizar un lenguaje ampuloso lleno de ornamentos, olvidando que lo importante es usar un lenguaje lo mas científico posible, para ello hemos de intentar crear un lenguaje científico que use vocablos específicos y dejando la ornamentación en el lenguaje para los poetas. Abstract It has been said that the documentation provided by the writers of antiquity are full of errors and contradictions (it has even been said that there were no Celts in the peninsula), the work pretends to understand that there were not so many mistakes and contradictions, the problem lies in the use of language, since words change in meaning according to the criterion used, there are historians who are more concerned with using a language full of ornaments, forgetting that what is really important is to use a language the most scientific as possible, for this we must try to create a scientific language that uses specific vocables and leaving the ornamentation in the language for the poets.
