The First Word My blood is red… and gold! Well it was an interesting Easter break that saw the ―Prems‖ earn a last minute penalty to record an away draw at Marist. It was a game the coaching staff and players felt we did enough to win but football’s all about finishing and perhaps an away point is better than a loss! And then for the Chatham Cup game on Monday Besim was able to rest a couple of senior players and blood some youth as we cruised past the hapless Naenae side 4 nil. It was an emphatic victory based on our quick passing game. It’s nice to see the squad system working effectively and player depth is crucial to the success of any campaign as we work around the inevitable A broken wrist will keep player suspension and injury. “Fizz” out for a few weeks Today we host the youthful Western Suburbs team who have had a torrid time of it lately leaking a few goals. But Wests have some high quality young talent and won’t be a pushover by any means. I’m confi- dent we’ll see a goal fest today. To all spectators – enjoy the game and enjoy our Stop Out hospitality. 3 Chris Canton, President Besim’s match reports Round 3 vs Waterside Karori 2-0 win (SGulley JMason) Waterside Karori were our opponents on a wet miserable day for round 3 of the season. Desperate for a win to kick-start our season we started exceptionally well with all the players fired up for the match. Only 5 mins in n a and Fisem was upended by the keeper for a penalty and a dismissal to the keeper being the last man. Steve slotted in the pen for a much needed early advantage. 1-0. So keen to get more goals we attacked constantly and at times without patience which saw many moves frustrated and at halftime we went in with only the 1-0 lead. Patience and spreading the field to move the ball was the aim for the 2nd half and that is what we did. Ball possession was excellent and when Steve found Jamie from a free-kick we had our 2-0 goal buffer and game over. The rain was torrential and at times the puddles were simply stopping us from adding to our tally. Our front 3 were a constant threat all game especially James Houpt who has been terrific in working his way into the starting line-up for the 1st team. The 2-0 score was a fair reflection and a much needed victory. I was extremely pleased with the desire shown by all players to get the win and by continuing to play quality football. MOM- Blair Easthope Round 4 vs Marist 1-1 draw (S Gulley) Kilbirnie Park was the venue for our round 4 fixture. Never an easy surface to play on we were always in for a difficult match. Playing into a stiff breeze we got the ball down and attacked Marist through the flanks where Vath constantly got in behind Marist leaving their fullback for dead. Clear chances were wasted though with Steve, Vath and James all having good opportunities to give us the edge. Mike had a shot cleared off the line and their goalkeeper was simply having a great day. The unwritten rule that when a team doesn’t take its opportunities it gets punished was ever so true when on the stroke of halftime we conceded to go 1-0 down. I sensed that the players were so disap- pointed to be down at the half having so many chances go begging. The 2nd half was a true disappointment with simply no rhythm to our play. Playing with no width we lacked penetration and got drawn into a battle. With time running out Nathan Canton was pushed forward as an extra attacker and was upended in the area with 3 minutes to play. Steve slotted from the spot to give us a late equaliser and a point. I truly felt that we dropped 2 points today as we should’ve wrapped up the match by halftime. The positive thing was that we refused to lose the match and played through to the end and were rewarded with a point which could prove valuable come the end of the season. Open Mon-Thu 6am-8:30pm; Fri 6am-8pm; W/end4 8:30am-2:30pm MOM- Nathan Canton Naenae Pool Building • Everest Avenue, Naenae • Ph (04) 567 5431 6 Whakatiki Street, Upper Hutt. 0800 022 457 Chatham Cup Preliminary Round vs Naenae (SGulley3 DFussell) We travelled to Naenae Park for our prelim cup game against Naenae. The first half was played at a frantic pace with end to end attacks from both teams. Steve hit a bullet to give us the lead on 10 minutes and although further chances fell to Vath and Nash we only went in at 1-0 up. We wanted to control things a lot more and maintain controlled dominance and after only 10 minutes of the second spell Steve had his second after a lovely dinked pass by Blair for 2-0. Soon after Damo had a shot blocked off the line by their defender with the use of an arm and a red card. Steve dispatched the pen for a 3-0 lead. Damo wasn’t to be outdone though and found himself on the score sheet for his first goal of the season and 4-0. With 15 minutes to play we introduced 2 youngsters who have come through the grades at Stop Out. James Marsh and Alex McDonald junior had a taste of first team football having last season played JPL!!! The future looks bright. The team perfor- mance was excellent today and hopefully can be used as a catalyst for more triumphs this season. MOM- Steve Gulley Sam Blackburn has joined Stop Out Sam a mercurial talent comes to us from the University of Mobile in Alabama where he has been studying on a Football scholarship. Sam represented New Zealand u20s in 2009 and has played in the NZFC for Team Wellington in 2008 and 2009. Monday, 5 June 2017 Chatham Cup Programme – NWAFC vs NPRAFC Page 1 of 7 Welcome, It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to Alex Moore Park for this important ISPS Handa Chatham Cup match as we host New Plymouth Rangers. As the largest senior club in the Wellington region we are pleased and proud to offer footballing opportunities for players of all ages and stages on the football spectrum. The Northern Hills Pathway has been an important initiative for football development in our area. We are working together with the Onslow and North Wellington junior football clubs, Newlands and Onslow Colleges, to create a player pathway for footballers of any ability. This is one of the most significant pieces of work ever embarked upon. Although in its early stages, all 5 organisations agreeing to work together and collaborate with the aim of promoting the best interests of footballers is a worthy objective which will have positive ramifications for years to come. Our partnership with the Ngatiawa Russell Masonic Lodge and their sponsorship of our Men’s Premier team has been a very positive experience. This alliance has increased the profile of our club while also promoting the opportunity to become involved in Freemasonry. The recent announcement by Just Paterson Real Estate of their sponsorship of our Men’s Reserve and Third teams has been equally well received.

It’s been a promising start for pretty much all teams in 2014. Sure it’s early days but there’s a nice positive vibe around the club. The Prems signaled their intentions with a good start against Miramar but a hiccup at a windswept and very uninviting Karori Park saw us suffer a 1-2 loss. Refreshing to be back at Hutt Park with a game against the vastly different Island Bay side from the Ole inspired teams of the last couple of seasons. They haven’t had the best start but to be fair have come up against two of the league favourites. And Island Bay are a big club with huge player depth so today will be a massive challenge! Our 2nd team are unbeaten and also come up against Island Bay today on #2. The 3rds have also had a good start to their season with two from two.

Liquid IT Petone vs Waterside Karori Central League 2020 | 3pm, Saturday July 11 | Memorial Park Powerex Petone vs Waterside Karori W-League 2020 | 1pm, Saturday July 18 | Memorial Park Proudly supporting Petone FC liquidit.nz Chairman’s Corner elcome Waterside Karori to Petone FC and welcome all of our loyal Wsupporters as well as opposition supporters. A quick recap of the last two weekends – our Liquid IT Men’s First Team had a loss and a draw and now sit mid-table, Reserves two good wins, Third Team two losses and Fourth Team two wins and sit nicely on top of the Wellington 3 table. Our Powerex Women’s First Team had two wins and sit near the top of the W-League, Reserves two losses and U18 Team a win and a loss, so this development team is going really well. Our closed-shop teams had a mix of results over the two weeks. But from the vibe in the clubrooms, they are all loving being out playing football again. With a full round of games for all of our teams except masters this week due to the school holidays, we have an exciting weekend ahead of us. The main game today is our Liquid IT Petone Men’s First Team against Waterside Karori – both teams needing points to rise up the league table. The curtain raiser is Petone Reserves versus Waterside Karori Third Team – so hopefully a lot of support for both teams here today. And continuing the theme, next weekend (July 18) our Powerex Women’s First Team also host Waterside Karori.

Just over the half way point in the season for our teams, although our Women’s Premier have just three games remaining—don’t ask why! And it’s wonderful to see that both our first teams sit atop their respective Premier Leagues. It mirrors last year’s performance where we won both the Men’s and Women’s Capital Premier titles. Bu there’s a lot of footy to be played and a lot of 50-50’s to be contested before any celebration can begin—let alone thought about. But better to be first in the league than last! Today’s opposition Waterside can attest to that. Only a couple of weeks ago they were in the Cup and unbeaten in the league. Sometimes the difference between a win or a loss can be a marginal decision, a few suspensions and a few injuries! But as our first round loss to them confirms, Wharfies are still one of the 3 favourites with Stop Out and Wellington United—to win the Premier League The nuisance of Miramar and Olympic 2nd teams in Capital Premier just confuses the push to win the league as they can’t gain promotion into Central league.
