Not sure if there’s many better places to be than Shepherds Park on a Sunday for a Chatham cup game, especially between these two sides! Hopefully the weather holds up and we can get another huge vocal crowd out here to cheer on the team. We’re currently on a good run and although last weekend’s game was a bit scrappy it’s all about 3 points first and foremost. The three points have moved us up into fourth place. There’s not much in it from 2nd down to about 6th, so each and every result is as important as one another. Birkenhead United are in a great place with the youngsters coming through with another home grown player coming through last week. 16 year old Everton O’Leary made his starting debut for us in our 3-1 win against West Coast Rangers, so I would like to extend a congratulations to Everton, and we look forward to seeing him involved in Birkenhead colours moving forward. The development team are having a great season with the team full of quality young players and are all pushing for first team squad for 2022. We all know it’s going to be a bit of a giant killing act today but we will be up for it. We look forward to seeing you around the club and hopefully putting on an entertaining match for you all this afternoon. Welcome to Hutt Park. Another season rolls around and with it ends the busiest time of the year for all involved ‘behind the scenes’ at Stop Out. Our focus continues to be on our ’Football for All’ philosophy and in 2016 our Senior numbers are consistent with 5 Men’s teams, 3 Masters and 3 Women’s teams. And proudly we are the only club in the Wellington region with Women’s and Men’s Central League teams—and no Wellington United with their Nix influence , do not count as a Men’s Central League club. There has been significant growth in our junior ranks. Playing numbers are one thing, however we are putting a greater focus on the player experience of our youngsters and development of our junior coaches to foster a culture second to none in the region.

    We Are North Shore SATURDAY 13th MAY 2017 – KICK OFF 2PM CHATHAM CUP – RD1 OFFICIAL MATCH DAY PROGRAMME OPPOSITION: METRO FC HEAD COACH– Tom Speers Good afternoon and welcome back to the the Hill for the 1st round of the Chatham Cup. I would like to welcome Mike and his Metro team here today, I expect it to be a lot tighter game than when they visited in the first game of season and I'm sure they will be looking to do a lot better than the 7-0 they experienced here that day. I love being part of the Cup and as there is only one cup competition in NZ I'm looking forward to hopefully going far. This club has a rich history in this cup, winning it 6 times, the last being in 1986, so fingers crossed we can progress into the later rounds of the competition and be there or there about towards the end. You can see the success we have had in this competition all over the clubhouse walls and talking with former players who have won it, we know how important it is to the club that we represent the club properly, so unlike the rumours I have been hearing, we will be playing a full strength squad and hoping every club in this competition do the same, resting players when you only have 1 game a week would be disrespectful to the longest cup competition on the planet and also be quite embarrassing for the clubs that do so. I hope you have a good day and hopefully see us progress, get behind the boys and make some noise.

Many kids will be experiencing their first World Cup and trying to take what they see on the screen out into the playground during the week and then the pitch in the weekend - I still have memories of following my first World Cup many years ago. The World Cup has also provided a distraction for some of the more mature members of the club, with a few looking worse for wear after early morning viewing. The tournament has now progressed to the knockout stages, with some of the pre-tournament favourites barely making it through. I am sure we'll see a few more upsets before the final whistle is blown. Speaking of tournaments, planning is well progressed for various tournaments that our club teams will be involved in over the coming months. We are proud to be able to field 14 strong teams in the South Island Tournaments in October. This is testament to the strength and depth that we have in our Junior and Youth grades. The club is also proud to be hosting the Alan Fraser Memorial Tournament for girls in mid-July.

We’ve managed 3 games in 11 days which has been a tough ask for this end of the season, but what an 11 days! First up we had PNM in the Knockout Cup Quarter Final. Leading up to this game we’d won a game apiece, and drawn 1-1 so it was always going to be a tight game. These games are always tough physical battles and this was no exception. Both teams were throwing everything they had into it, which was reflected in the half time score of 0-0. The second 45 was just as tough as the first, and we managed to get on the score sheet when PNM gave the ball away in their defensive third and Lena de Ronde capitalised by driving a cross into the 6 yard box and Emma Main nipped in front of her defender to tuck the ball away. 1-0. PNM are the sort of team that never gives up, and they struck back after a ball over the top was picked up by their striker and they slotted the ball into the far post tying the game up 1-1. Cup matches need a result, and so into extra time we went. Both teams were showing the effects of a long hard tussle, but through sheer grit and determination we pushed forward, and sent a cross into the box for Lena de Ronde to pop up at the far post driving the ball into the net to take us 2-1 up.
