The point of consciousness which we call the individuality. Around it all other things are centred. 2. The mind that recognises its own existence. 3. The mind that comes out through the senses and makes a contact with “others”. 4. The mind that knows and decides. 5. The mind that establishes its relationships with others. 6. The light that recognises itself existing in others. 7. The one who lives in all in the form of Love. There are people who live in each of these seven layers of consciousness. A living being awakens as the central point of the globe of one’s own existence (individuality). It takes up its journey and awakens into the second layer and the third layer of its own existence. This process is what the Ancients call Evolution. It continuous until it reaches the seventh, the outermost plane of consciousness, when it experiences the One Existence. This One Existence is liberation from the other six layers of consciousness. The PREFACE seventh layer, though it is absolute and beyond time and space, exists as the One Person who showers His Love upon the beings of all the other layers. This One Person can be called the Eternal Existence. There are people who come down to earth and live in a physical body with the awareness of this seventh plane. From time to time, they come down to earth. They invoke the same consciousness to others and they show us the way of life to be lived in order to live the Eternal Existence. They call it the Law. They establish it and return to their own planes of existence. They are all the forms of the One Existence, The One Guru, The World Teacher. Each of these has his own way of invoking the living beings into the eternal life. Lord Krishna had His own way and He called it “the Music.” He could play the Music through His flute and invoke the souls into His Existence, the Existence. He made some of the souls around Him experience it. On sudden occasions, He made all those around Him experience it. He made the process a formula of liberation and a grand solution to all the problems of humanity. This happened more than five thousand years ago as the Puranas and the Mahabharata describe. Internal ii PREFACE evidences make it possible to have back calculations based on astronomical phenomena. The Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana, Harivamsa and Vishnu Purana give us the internal evidences. They can be recorded as follows: 1. Lord Krishna was born in the month of July, 3228 B.C. midnight at zero hours between the nineteenth and the twentieth. 2. He dropped His physical body on the eighteenth of February, 3102 B.C. 3. He lived along with his people in Dwaraka, a city built by Him on the shores of the present Gujarat. The city is no more and it went into the sea on the seventh day after Krishna’s death. The main characters of this book are taken from the Puranas. The ancient tradition that became the basis of the theosophical wisdom is taken as the basis of this book. The characters of Maitreya, Maru and Devapi are gathered from the Puranas and it is shown how they live through births and rebirths with the continuity of consciousness which enables them to have a continuous plan of their work. Their plan is called the plan of the Masters and it has no other iii PREFACE purpose except fulfilling the purpose of the World Teacher, whenever He wants to come down or whenever He wants to touch the Humanity with a new thrill. Maitreya is known by the same name in the modern age. He is also known as the Christ. Maru of the Puranas is known as Morya while Devapi is known as Kuthumi, Djwhalkhul, the Light of the present day, who is also known as Master D.K. and the Tibetan, was trained into discipleship by Maru and Devapi through centuries. This book presents the facts that took place five thousand years ago. This book describes the trend of things that made Djwhalkhul a Master. The whole content of this book came to my mind as a flash within seconds and I started to dictate the book at 10:30 P.M. on 27-01-1973 and completed it by 05:30 P.M. on 10-02-1973. The book came to me without any proposal from my side. Then I thought it was a single volume. Afterwards, I received the next volume, “Man Sacrifice”; then I received the book “The World Teacher.” According to the sequence of incidents they form part of the biography of Lord Krishna in the following order. iv PREFACE Volume 1: The World Teacher Volume 6: The Music of the Soul Volume 7: Man Sacrifice Volumes 2, 3, 4 and 5 are still awaited. Volume 2 is almost completed and ready for publication. The names of other volumes, as I understand, are as follows: Volume 2: The Child’s Play, Volume 3: The Law Personified, Volume 4: The Eagle Banner, Volume 5: The Conch Each of these volumes is being published in original (Telugu language), from which they are being translated into English and are presented by the same author. But where did all these stories and gods come from? Did they all spread around the world from one particular source, only to change according to differences in language and customs? If not, then why are some of these gods and goddesses of various areas of the world so alike? Unfortunately, information about prehistoric religion is usually gathered through whatever remnants of earlier cultures we can find, such as bones in tombs and caves, or ancient sculptures, writings, engravings, wall paintings, and other relics. From these we are left to speculate about the rituals, ceremonies, and beliefs of the people and the purposes of the items found. Often we can only paint a crude picture of how simple and backwards these ancient people were while not thinking that more advanced civilizations may have left us next to nothing in terms of physical remains. They may have built houses out of wood or materials other than stone that have since faded with the seasons, or were simply replaced with other buildings over the years, rather than buried by the sands of time for archeologists to unearth. They also may have cremated their dead, as some societies did, leaving no bones to discover. Thus, without ancient museums or historical records from the past, there would be no way of really knowing what the prehistoric cultures were like.

Religion is a belief which frames itself into the camouflage of age old rites and rituals, aided by the myths and legendary sustenance about God, demons or any supra-human power that man is afraid of. In the Jungian term the “Collective Unconscious” of any community of men, germinates and strengthens the myths. The rites compel people to submit themselves. Those rituals gradually become the apparatus of obedience and subjugation to that regional, ethnic or national ‘God’ and these man-made rites become the root of the multiplicities of observing, worshipping and celebrating the particular holy being. Lord Jagannatha at Puri is one of the most famous deities in India. The institution at which He is worshipped or the holy ‘darshan’ of the God is found is the Nilmadhav Temple which has not only been a popular place but also has become one of the busiest tourist spots in India. In the Temple Hindu religious orthodoxy is autocratically ruling all over and a dictatorship of the priestly class looms large. These priests have an intra-class conflict among themselves on the issues of myth making, ritualizing and the administrative manipulation.

The sages (maharshis) arranged for a sacrifice (yajna) in this forest and the ceremony went on for twelve years. Naimisharanya forest was a wonderful place to arrange sacrifices in. The climate was pleasant. There were trees full of climate was pleasant. There were trees full of flowers and fruit. There was no shortage of food in the forest, and animals, birds and sages lived thee happily. Many sages came to attend the sacrifice that had been arranged in Naimisharanya. With them was Romaharshana (alternatively Lomaharshana), Veda Vyasa's disciple. Veda Vyasa had instructed this disciple of his in the knowledge of the Puranas. The assembled sages worshipped the learned Romaharshana and said, "Please tell us the stories of the Puranas. Who created the universe, who is its preserver and who will destroy it? Please instruct us in all these mysteries". Romaharshana replied, "Many years ago, Daksha and the other sages had asked Brahma these very questions. I have learnt about Brahma's replies from my guru) teacher) Veda Vyasa. I will relate to you what I know". In the beginning, there was water everywhere and the Brahman slept on this water in the form of Vishnu. Since water is called nara and since ayana means a bed, Vishnu is known as Narayana. In the water there emerged a golden egg. Brahma was born inside this egg. Since he created himself, he is called Svayambhu, born (bhu) by himself (svayam). For one whole year, Brahma lived inside the egg.

    THE VISHNU PURANA The Vishnu Purana has twenty-three thousand shlokas. Skanda Purana has eighty-one thousand shloka and Markandeya Purana only nine thousand. The Vishnu Purana also has six major sections or amshas, although the last of these is really short. Maitreya and Parashara Once the sage Maitreya came to the sage Parashara and wanted to know about the creation of the universe. And this is what Parashara told him. In the beginning the universe was full of water. But in that water there emerged a huge egg (anda) that was round like a water-bubble. The egg became bigger and bigger and inside the egg there was Vishnu. This egg was called Brahmanda. And inside Brahmanda there were the mountains and the land, the oceans and the seas, the gods, demons and humans and the stars. On all sides, the egg was surrounded by water, fire, wind, the sky and the elements. Inside the egg, Vishnu adopted the form of Brahma and proceeded to create the universe. When the universe is to be destroyed, it is Vishnu again who adopts the form of Shiva and performs the act of destruction. Let us therefore salute the great god Vishnu. There are four yugas or eras. These are called krita (or satya), treta, dvapara and kali. Krita era consists of four thousand years, treta of three thousand, dvapara of two thousand and kali of one thousand. All the four eras thus pass in ten thousand. And when all the four eras have passed one thousand times each, that is merely one day for Brahma.

They are of two categories—the ordinary and the extraordinary. Events of the daily routine can be called the ordinary. Those that present themselves to change and rearrange the routine can be called the extraordinary. The daily routine of a living being, especially of a human being, includes only an expenditure of the span since there is no contribution in it to the expansion of consciousness. Food, sleep, fear, sex, profession, advantage and disadvantage are all of the divisions of the daily routine. The duration of their occurrence cuts out one’s span without contributing to the happiness of oneself or others. The only consequence (not benefit) of these routine incidents comes into existence as the growth of the body with age, the use of the senses and their organs along the patterns of habit and the sparkling of intelligence in a mechanised succession. The wise ones called the aggregate, the habit nature. One learns to seek happiness in the counterparts of the habit nature.
