He stayed in the post for seven seasons, winning four lower-league titles, before moving to Young Boys. • His stay in Berne proved nowhere near as lengthy or successful, however, Challandes departing in 1995 with the club finishing bottom of the 12-team Swiss top flight after collecting just 17 points all season. A subsequent spell at Servette proved short-lived, and there followed a lengthy spell out of the limelight. • The Le Locle native took over the Switzerland Under-21 side in 2001. The highlight of his six years in charge came in 2002, when a team including , and Daniel Gygax reached the UEFA European Under-21 Championship semi-finals on home soil. • The lure of club football proved too strong for Challandes, however, and in 2007 he took charge of Zürich, leading them to the UEFA Cup round of 32 in his first season. The club's third league title in four years, and a new contract from Challandes until 2012, followed in 2009, the Swiss side securing UEFA Champions League group stage football for the first time at the start of 2009/10. • After leaving FCZ in 2010, Challandes took charge of Sion, Neuchâtel Xamax and Thun, committing to his first job outside Switzerland in February 2014, at the age of 62, when he was announced as the new coach of Armenia, signing a two-year contract. Dick Advocaat Date of birth: 27 September 1947 Nationality: Dutch Playing career: ADO Den Haag (twice), Roda JC, VVV Venlo, Chicago Sting, Sparta Rotterdam, K. Berchem Sport, FC Utrecht Coaching career: DSVP, HFC Haarlem, FC Dordrecht, Netherlands (twice), PSV Eindhoven, Rangers FC, VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach, United Arab Emirates, South Korea, FC Zenit St Petersburg, AZ Alkmaar (twice), Belgium, Russia, Serbia • A combative , Advocaat's playing career lasted 18 years and included three seasons in the North American Soccer League with Chicago Sting. • Twice served as assistant coach to Rinus Michels with the Dutch national team, where he earned the nickname Little General. Then took charge himself and led the Oranje to the 1994 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals in the United States. • Won the Dutch Cup and Eredivisie with PSV (1995-98) before moving to Scotland and picking up domestic treble in the first of four seasons with Rangers. He then opted for a second spell with the Netherlands and led team to UEFA EURO 2004 semi-finals. Two years later he was in charge of South Korea at the World Cup finals. • Returned to club football with Zenit, winning the Russian title in 2007 and the UEFA Cup – where he defeated former club Rangers – and UEFA Super Cup a year later. Left in August 2009, becoming Belgium coach two months later before agreeing to coach AZ Alkmaar for the rest of the season. • Took charge of Russia in May 2010, clinching a place at UEFA EURO 2012 with a 6-0 defeat of on the last day of qualifying. In April 2012 he announced his decision to depart after that summer's finals and subsequently agreed a return to PSV. Returned to Alkmaar in October 2013 on a a short-term basis until the season's end and in July 2014 was confirmed as Serbia coach.

EURO finals: The UEFA European Championship was a four-team event in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976 (when the preliminary round and quarter-finals were considered part of qualifying).

From 1980 it was expanded to an eight-team finals and remained in that format in 1984, 1988 and 1992 until 1996, when the 16-team format was adopted. UEFA EURO 2016 was the first tournament to be played as a 24-team finals.

Records of inactive countries A number of UEFA associations have been affected by dissolution or splits of member associations. For statistical purposes, the records of these inactive countries have been allocated elsewhere: therefore, all Soviet Union matches are awarded to Russia; all West Germany – but not East Germany – matches are awarded to Germany; all Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro matches are awarded to Serbia; all Czechoslovakia matches are allocated to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Abandoned/forfeited matches For statisical purposes, when a match has been started and then abandoned but later forfeited, the result on the pitch at the time of abandonment is counted. Matches that never started and were either cancelled or forfeited are not included in the overall statistics.
