Special Feature: HOME COOKING ENTERTAINMENT Let Us Entertain You! By Renee Stern, Entertainment Committee Chair As most of you have noticed, and many of you have commented on, your 2016/2017 Entertainment Committee has been very busy this year. We are delighted that all of our efforts have brought community approval, and regret that many of you were unable to attend some of our events due to space constrictions. Hopefully, in the future this will be somewhat alleviated as we try to repeat our most popular events at later dates. Our Valentine's Day Dinner Dance was a beautiful evening in a room filled with love. At this time, we look forward to two new Starlight Theater presentations, a repeat of the Motown Show so many of you missed, our Spring Dinner Dance and additional lectures, book reviews, 92nd Street Y programs, vacation week activities and our Sunday Night OFFICERS AND BOARD movies. And there are more in the works, so please continue to check your emails, flyers at the Media Center and MEMBERS 2016-2017 notices that come with your monthly bills. We have some wonderful events coming your way. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE At this time, we are also looking ahead to the summer months. Although committees do change with each new President David Gold election, we still try to plan things for our “rounders” to enjoy while trying to find some cool. Vice President Bernard Silver This has been a fabulous year for entertainment at Hunters Run and a great year for me. In , cooking is a serious art form, practically a national sport. In Boynton Beach, cooking is a serious passion and a bridge to lasting friendship for Fran Lipset, Marsha Merdinger, Paula Sternberg and Steve Klein. These four love to cook. They love to entertain. They savor each other’s cooking and baking, their own dishes as well. They are good friends who enjoy each other’s company. They share recipes and cooking techniques. The cooks and their spouses appreciate each other’s culinary creativeness and know just when to “ooh” and “ahh.” Each of them hosts specific holidays. Brunch, lunch, dinner, cocktails, parties…they are all in the repertoire. The four will gladly contribute a luscious addition of their own to a friend’s feast.

Hunters Run Country Club MARCH/APRIL 2017 15 FITNESS I am Serious! By John Freeland, Director of Fitness

Can you believe what took place Sunday night, February 6th in Houston? The Super Bowl had one amazing feat after another, all throughout the game! I watched two catches where the same receiver, blanketed by the defender, snatched the ball out of the air and managed to keep his toes on the field to complete the pass, both for critical first downs to keep the drive going. The whole crowd yelled out “are you serious”?!!! That’s not to be overdone by a catch that bounced off two defenders’ legs and the receiver caught the ball literally one inch from touching the ground. The whole crowd bellowed “are you serious”?!!! And ultimately, a team prevailed against all odds, coming from 25 points behind to win in overtime…two feats never achieved before. Once again, the room echoed with the words “are you serious.” I was rubbing my eyes, flabbergasted at what I had just seen. It takes physical training to be successful and walk away with one’s head held high. In this case, I am not talking about elite athletes…I am talking about YOU! I don’t care if you spent the majority of your life without exercising; you can get amazing results and turn the tables for your health. I am serious when I say you can come from behind, even if you feel down and out, and walk away a winner. I literally have two clients, over the age of 94, who could outperform people half their age: I am serious! It’s a feat you wouldn’t believe unless you see it with your own eyes!!! Don’t wait for a critical point in your life to keep running the race. Google says almost 17 million employees don’t go to work the day after the Super Bowl. I made it into the gym that Monday despite lacking energy that day. What’s your excuse?

Why Paraffin? WELLNESS By Jane Shull, LMT A combination of factors working together is needed to truly relieve troubled aches and joint pain—a two-fold treatment for treating dry skin and cold aches in the bones. One of the best drug-free remedies is the soothing power of heated paraffin wax. When your elbows, hands or feet are coated in heated wax, blood circulates to your skin’s surface creating radiant, soft, elastic warm joints. It’s one of the most effective methods of delivering warmth to aching hands and elbows and feet. This is ideal for cracked skin on your hands and elbows and stiff fingers. Paraffin baths are ideal for: • Relaxing stiff muscles • Using prior to therapy • Soothing over-worked hands and feet • Helping to increase range of motion • Warming an aching body I offer paraffin treatments alone or with a massage treatment. Enjoy warm, radiant, soothing therapy for your hands and feet; relax in an atmosphere infused with scents for tired aching joints; slow down as you listen to nice music and use this time to just recharge. I look forward to seeing you.
