    Journal of Malay Islamic Studies Vol. 1 No. 1, June 2017 TRACING THE CONCEPT OF POLITICAL LEADERSHIP OF ISLAM NUSANTARA Zaki Faddad Faculty of Ushluddin and Islamic Thought Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah Palembang, Indonesia E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Certain community both based ethnicities and nationalities have different characteristics on the notion of political leadership. Studies on the political leadership concept in Indonesia cannot escape from the Javanese political leadership characteristics. The reason is simply, because most of Indonesian leaders are from Java. Ben Anderson (1990) sees the Sukarno and Suharto leadership as the representation of Islamic Mataram Kingdom that was absolute and totalitarian typical leadership. Then, it follows cultural stereotyping of political leadership based on ethnicity in Indonesia. Jajat Burhanuddin (2014) sees that Melayu has democratic political culture, while Jawa has authoritarian political culture based on the creed “Manunggaling Kawula Gusti” – Unity between God-ruler or Subject-ruler. However Burhanuddin (2014) does not explain the nature of the creed in Javanese typical political leadership. Naim (2014) controversially sees that there are bipolar characteristics of political leadership in Indonesia. Jawa has absolute and totalitarian typical leadership that is influenced by Javanese local belief; otherwise Melayu (Outside Jawa) has egalitarian and democratic political leadership that is strong influenced by Islamic teaching. This paper tries to dig the understanding of principles on political leadership in Indonesia by making comparison both Jawa and Melayu on the nature of political leadership. The paper engages Talal Asad (2009) conceptual frameworks on discursive tradition. Thus from Asad point of view political leadership is the result of a dynamic process between agency and structure.

Pada saat yang sama VOC dari daratan Eropa mulai datang untuk mengadakan kontak dagang dengan negara-negara di Nusantara, termasuk Mataram. VOC yang sebenarnya hanya membutuhkan beras untuk logistik dan kayu untuk transportasi serta garam, kemudian mengambil permusuhan dengan Mataram setelah penyerangan yang dilakukan Sultan Agung dengan mengepung kantor pusat VOC di Batavia pada 1628-1629, namun setelah tahun 1677 atau setelah terjadi pemberontakan Trunojoyo, maka Mataramlah yang kemudian merapat pada VOC karena terpikat oleh militernya yang kuat pada waktu itu.

Berdasarakan pengamatan terhadap peninggalan yang masih tersisa di lokasi bekas keraton, terlihat mangkrak dan hanya beberapa tempat masih terdapat bekas sesaji. Perpindahan istana kerajaan Keraton Mataram dari Kartasura ke Surakarta, menyebabkan keraton Kartasura tidak pernah ditempati lagi, penyebabnya adalah konflik internal yang terjadi di Mataram Islam. Adanya konflik kerajaan membuat Paku Buwana II beserta keluarganya serta para pendukung setianya melarikan diri ke arah timur dan dikawal oleh pasukan Belanda yang dipimpin oleh kapten Hogendrop, yang selanjutnya mereka menuju ke Magetan dan akhirnya ke Panaraga (Sartana Kartodirdjo, 1992: 226). Pelarian Paku Buwana II ke Panaraga mendapat bantuan yang cukup besar oleh para bupati mancanegara. Berkat bantuan bupati mancanegara, pada 1743 Paku Buwana II dapat menduduki kembali pusat keraton Mataram-Kartasura. Namun sekembalinya dari pelarian dan berhasil merebut Kartasura dari pemberontak, ternyata Paku Buwana II belum merasa tenang.     “KOTA LAMA SEMARANG” SITUS SEJARAH YANG TERPINGGIRKAN “OLD CITY OF SEMARANG” THE ABANDONED HISTORICAL SITE Ika Dewi Retno Sari SMA 14 Semarang ABSTRACT The existence of Semarang city as a trading town on the north coast of Java had been going on since the founding of Old Mataram Kingdom and continues to grow, until the period of Dutch colonial rule. The rapid development as a city of Semarang in the Dutch colonial period was marked by the establishment of the buildings at the site which is now called Semarang Old Town. Most of these buildings serve as offices and private VOC trade. Over time, Semarang became not only a trading center but it evolved into a gemeente (municipality), up to the present period. Nevertheless, there seems to be lack of interest in making the history of Semarang as a subject in teaching history at the local level, especially in educational circles, as the subject matter in teaching history. As a source of considerable historical importance, there is nothing wrong if a teacher of History, especially in the city of Semarang, making the Old City as a source of learning for students in the city of Semarang. Therefore the existence of sites as well as historical buildings in the city of Semarang is should no longer simply regarded as old buildings that have without meaning. And at least it will foster public awareness of Semarang city, especially among students to participate in regard to keep the existence of the Old Town and make it as an asset of History and Tourism in the city of Semarang.

    IJSS.Vol.12, No.2, September 2016 STATE AND THE STATECRACT OF THE CENTRALS OF GOVERNMENT MATARAM ISLAM KINGDOM IN JAVA HY. Agus Murdiyastomo3 Abstract This study is aimed to examine the dynamic of Islamic Mataram kingdom, focusing more on administrative system in Islam Mataram. This research used the five stages historical research method according to Kuntowijoyo, which are topic selection, heuristic, verification, interpretation and writing. Panembahan Senopati defeated Pajang and built a palace in Kotagede which later was used by Mataram kings until their peak of glory under Sultan AgungHanyakrakusuma. However the defeat of Mataram from VOC caused them to lose their ground, moreover after Sultan AgungHanyakrakusuma deceased. His successor, Amangkurat I think that Kotagede as the central of economic activities considered to be no longer suitable for the central of government. Therefore he ordered to move the palace from Kotagede to Pleret. Raden Mas Rahmat, as ‘Amangkurat II’, didn’t want to go back to Pleret because it had been taken by Puger Prince, and then built new palace in Kartasura. Amangkurat III escaped to the east when Kartasura was taken. But this palace would also be abandoned later, and moved to Surakarta when Pakubuwono II ruled the place.
