This ninth-century Hindu temple complex, which since 1991 has been listed as a world heritage site, was a professional archaeological reconstruction. The method employed for the reconstruction was anastylosis,2 however, when it came to the roof top, a bit of fantasy was also employed. For a long time the site had been not much more than a pile of stones. ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: WAR AND RESISTANCE: THE PHILIPPINES, 1942-1944 James Kelly Morningstar, Doctor of History, 2018 Dissertation directed by: Professor Jon T. Sumida, History Department What happened in the Philippine Islands between the surrender of Allied forces in May 1942 and MacArthur’s return in October 1944? Existing historiography is fragmentary and incomplete. Memoirs suffer from limited points of view and personal biases. No academic study has examined the Filipino resistance with a critical and interdisciplinary approach. No comprehensive narrative has yet captured the fighting by 260,000 guerrillas in 277 units across the archipelago. This dissertation begins with the political, economic, social and cultural history of Philippine guerrilla warfare. The diverse Islands connected only through kinship networks. The Americans reluctantly held the Islands against rising Japanese imperial interests and Filipino desires for independence and social justice. World War II revealed the inadequacy of MacArthur’s plans to defend the Islands. The General tepidly prepared for guerrilla operations while Filipinos spontaneously rose in armed resistance. After his departure, the chaotic mix of guerrilla groups were left on their own to battle the Japanese and each other. While guerrilla leaders vied for local power, several obtained radios to contact MacArthur and his headquarters sent submarine-delivered agents with supplies and radios that tie these groups into a united framework. MacArthur’s promise to return kept the resistance alive and dependent on the United States. The repercussions for social revolution would be fatal but the Filipinos’ shared sacrifice revitalized national consciousness and created a sense of deserved nationhood. The guerrillas played a key role in enabling MacArthur’s return. -

Salah satu media yang dapat mewakili seluruh isi mata adalah seni kriya tekstil, karena memiliki turunan berupa busana yang menjadi kebutuhan utama bagi kehidupan manusia. Busana tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai pelindung tubuh tetapi bisa menjadi media komunikasi untuk menyampaikan pesan estetis. Mata akan digunakan sebagai sumber ide penciptaan motif dan diterapkan pada busana modern untuk menyampaikan konten makna dan filosofis yang terkandung di dalamnya dengan menggunakan pendekatan estetika dan ergonomi. Kata kunci: Mata, busana, kriya tekstil ABSTRACT The eyes are the Windows of the soul and the world's window into life, with all the events can be seen and appreciated it has a form of aesthetic, philosophical content and high value for life, therefore becomes essential to convey the eyes through the media that is easily accepted by the society. One of the media that can represent the entire contents of the eye is the art of textile craft, because it has a derivative form of clothing that became the main needs for human life. The clothes not only serves as a protector of the body but it can be a medium of communication to convey messages aesthetically. -

GALEDECEMBER 2010Ó VOL. 1 NO.N 1 10 PAGES Official publication of the Cavite Studies Center • DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY-DASMARIÑAS 12th Annual Seminar on Cavite history and culture Disaster,calamity awareness discussed To assess the geographical condition of the province and to single out the preparedness capacity of Caviteños in terms of catastrophe and calamities, the Cavite Studies Center (CSC) convened its 12th annual seminar on history and culture entitled Desastres y Calamidades: Cavite and the Signs of the Times. The event took place at the Aguinaldo Shrine, Kawit, Cavite on September 24. Public school teachers from Kawit and Dasmariñas and local government officials of Kawit, Noveleta, Naic, Ternate, Trece Martires, and Imus attended the seminar. The opening ceremonies Before the lecture proper, Kawit Mayor Reynaldo ‘Tik’ Aguinaldo commended the CSC regarding the importance of holding such activity. This, accordingly, will give the audience the ability to determine the actions to be done once a calamity or a disaster happens. Former Prime Minister Cesar EA Virata stressed that population growth which contribute to environmental and garbage problems is one factor in the occurrence of calamities. He even suggested some measures such as education and concentrated efforts for a cleaner surroundings that Caviteños have to observe in order to lessen the problem. CSC Director Aquino Garcia, on the other hand, delivered the conference overview. Pulau Seribu is one of the 10 destinations. Meanwhile, Bira Island is located in the Thousand Islands. To improve the performance of the Island, it is also necessary to increase the island of Bira. This mixed mode research, conducted for a year on the island of Bira to respond to the plans of the Ministry of Tourism. This study aims to discern Coastal Ecotourism in Bira Island, Indonesia. The results of data collection and tabulation show the existence of gap between the performances of the island at this time and expected. Ecotourism concept enhances CE performance on the island. In addition, the concept also creates jobs of women and anglers living along the coastline. -
