THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear Parish Family, We cannot let the month of June pass by without mentioning heroes of our faith. A few days ago, the church devoted its liturgy on the feast of St. . Today I thought I'd say something on the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul which we will celebrate on June 29. Perhaps it was a question the disciples did not expect. 'Who do you say that I am?' It was Peter who declared, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Then at a much later time, another person, traveling towards Damascus in pursuit of who were 'breathing murderous threats', saw a blinding light and heard a voice saying, ", Saul why are you persecuting me?" I believe these stories are all familiar to us. They are stories of St. Peter and St. Paul - the two great pillars of our faith. Peter the fisherman who became Peter the Rock and Saul the Persecutor of the faith who became Paul the Ambassador of the Word and Apostle to the . They were unlikely heroes. Ordinary people with their faults and imperfections but who were made extraordinary by God's grace. With this grace, they persevered in their calling, not afraid of persecution, not faltering even when martyrdom was imminent and were steadfast in the conviction that death and the gates of would not prevail against the community of those who believed in . So, what's our faith worth to us? Are we willing to live for our beliefs and even die for them? In Jesus,

Fr. Dwight
