FER 2015 EAST COUNTY … an administrative shire Wealden … an administrative shire’s district

East sussex County and its 5-districts are now under a FER (Further Electoral Review): this ‘as proposed’ scheme covers the district of Wealden only. The Commission is mindful & agreeable to revise sizes of both authorities: County’s Electoral Divisions (EDs) within Wealden would increase by one up to 15-members, thus the district council’s reduced size would become 15 x 3 = 45-members. County’s extant arrangement is 11-EDs: three EDs are dual members, they are with Willingdon & East Dean, , & EDs. District’s extant arrangement is 35-wards: a salad of single, dual & triple member wards. have drafted a single member scheme: whist it may satisfy ‘electoral equality criteria’ up to a point it blatantly disregards CP (Civil ) own identities ie ‘community criteria’. CPs are an identity.

MY REASONS for PROPOSING 13-divisions (ED) of 15-MEMBERS and 27-wards of 45-members within ’s Wealden. The merits of multi-member wards will respect CPs’ identity and their particular community interests within Wealden. Of the County’s division arrangements, trio of councillors plus the county member would be within a clear ED. Whole are the merit of multi-member wards that would make electoral equality: efficient & convenient local government is the result / outcome. The district of Wealden’s character.
