Questo corpus di opere, progredendo dagli anni '60 ad aggi, mostra un incredibile fermenta innovativo, che scavalca talvolta anche le frontiere politiche, inoltrandosi nell'enorme mercato italiano. Grazie sia alla sviluppo editoriale della Svizzera italiana, che alla vivacità degli scrittori svizzeri d'espressione italiana, siarno in grade di notare una produzione di alta qualità e di particolare interesse. La particolarità viene dal miscuglio di lingua italiana, di cultura svizzera, di problematiche europee, e di affetti ticinesi e grigionesi, nonché da un contesta sociale ricco di un passato di miserie e un presente di capitalismo avanzato. Gli autori sono stati scelti con l'intento di rappresentare l'evoluzione della narrativa negli ultimi quattro decenni e di offrire un vasto panorama di tematiche e di scrittura. Oltre ad includere dunque il notissimo Giovanni Orelli, questo studio si inoltrerà attraverso gli scritti non mena validi di Alberto Nessi, di Claudio Nembrini, di Anna Felder, Elda Guidinetti, Silvana Lattmann, Ennio Maccagno, ed altri, per arrivare agli 11 autori giovanissimi, ed ai lorD primi esordi, che preannunciano il prossimo futuro della letteratura svizzera in italiano. Un capitolo a parte è stato dedicato aIle scrittrici a documentare l'espressione stilistica e tematica che caratterizza la loro scrittura distinguendola da quella dei colleghi, e l'importanza della loro presenza sulla scena letteraria, nei confronti di un tempo non tante lontano in cui le donne scrivevano, in dialetto, dei diari e delle lettere ai parenti emigrati nel mondo. Poichê il contesta geografico, sociale e politico in cui nasce e si evolve la letteratura di cui ci si vuole occupare influisce molto spesso sugli esiti della stessa, si è deciso di soffermarci ampiamente su di esso prima di entrare nel merito dell'analisi che ci proponiamo. L'importanza di tale contesta ci ha anche suggerito il taglio da dare al nostro lavoro. Le opere di narrativa prese in esame riflettono e interpretano, sia i problemi che la società andava vivendo che le correnti di pensiero che in essa si succedevano; una presentazione degli autori in ordine cronologico, dunque, avrebbe spezzettato la tela di fondo nella quale si inseriscono - dalla quale emergono i lore romanzi e racconti. Il nome di uno stesso autore tornerà, quindi, in momenti diversi, legato a quella delle sue opere che si inserisce nel periodo 0 nella corrente di pensiero di cui si sta parlando. Una lettura attenta permetterà, cemunque, di ricostruire la storia lecteraria di ciascuno, e di 111 allargare il campo conoscitivo della produzione letteraria in italiano, non più restringibile all'Italia politica. iv Ab8tract This study provides an overview of the literature of the Italian-speaking regions of Switzerland. lt presents well-known authors but also lesser-known writers who have made an important contribution to the literature of the Ticino and Grigioni cantons. Dating from the 1960s co the present, the corpus bears witness to a remarkable vitality and innovative spirit, which on occasion overflow political borders and find their way into the much larger Italian market. The dynamism of local publishers has contributed to focusing attention on the high quality and importance of the literature produced by 5wiss authors writing in Italian. The distinctive character of this literature lies in the unique combination of disparate factors. Italian language, Swiss culture, and European concerns interact with emotional ties to the local communities in a rich social context marked by past misery and a present characterized by advanced capitalism. The choice of authors is based on the desire to trace the evolution of narrative literature during the last four decades and present a wide range of themes and styles. In addition to the renowned Giovanni Orelli, this study considers the equally important works of writers such as Alberto Nessi, Claudio Nembrini, Anna Felder, Elda Guidinetti, Silvana Lattmann, Ennio Maccagno, among others. Very young writers whose first efforts v are shaping the future of Swiss literature in Italian are also examined. A special chapter is devoted to women writers. The goal is ta identify the style and set of themes which distinguish their contribution from that of their colleagues. The study also discusses the importance of their presence on the literary scene after a time, not so far in the past, when women were confined to writing, in dialect, diaries and letters to relatives who had emigrated. The discussion of the corpus is prefaced by a detailed presentation of the geographical, social and political context which often determines the literary outcome. The importance of this context has also influenced the way in which the texts are approached. The narratives studied reflect and interpret the problems society was facing at a particular time, as weIl as the inteIIectual movements that characterize each period. A chronological presentation of each individual author would have fragmented the dynamic background from which his or her works emerge and within which such works must be located. The name of an author will therefore resurface in different contexts when one of his or her warks is discussed in connection with the given period or intellectual movement under examination. The literary bistory of each author, however, can be easiIy reconstructed through an attentive reading. What emerges at the end of the study is a widened field of knowledge for Italian VI studies, whose abject can no longer be seen ta coincide with the literary production within the borders of the Italian state. Résumé Cette étude offre une panoramique de la littérature de la Suisse italienne, en présentant non seulement les auteurs plus célèbres mais aussi ces écrivains qui, bien que moins connus, sont toutefois important dans la production littéraire des cantons du Tessin et des Grisons. Le co~us d'oeuvres publiées à partir des années soixante jusqu'aujourd'hui témoigne d'une remarquable vitalité et esprit innovateur qui parfois dépassent les frontières politiques pour atteindre le grand marché italien.
