Main cause – collapsing buildings. Search and rescue continues – 30 people unaccounted for at present. No disruprion of electricity and gas lines. Areal: Felt in neighbouring Syria, Lebanon and Iran.

Mobilisation: NATIONAL RESPONSE Afad - All Disaster and Emergency Management Centres (AADYM), especially the General Staff, activated. 400 rescue teams - total of 1,097 search and rescue personnel and 219 vehicles from UMKE and fire brigade teams of the Gendarmerie, as well as 39 AFAD provincial directorates, dispatched to the region. 15 search and rescue dogs sent to the region. Construction machines assigned under the coordination of AFAD. No construction equipment other than AFAD coordination will work in the region. Information as of 21:00 25 JAN 2020 Rescue teams used their hands, drills and mechanical diggers through the night, managing to pull 39 people from the rubble alive as the temperature dropped to -8C (17.6F). At least 22 more people are trapped under collapsed buildings, Turkey’s disaster and emergency authority (Afad) said on Saturday, and rescue efforts were still under way at three different sites in Elazig. Hundreds of people waited anxiously behind police barriers for any sign of missing relatives. Among those found alive was a pregnant woman who was rescued 12 hours after the quake hit, although her 12-year-old son later died in hospital. Nearly 2,000 search-and-rescue personnel have been sent to the region and thousands of beds, blankets and tents have been provided, the Turkish presidency said, while state carrier Turkish Airlines put on extra flights to Elazig from and to help transport rescuers. Several thousand people are being housed in local sports gymnasiums and schools.
