Jehn Produced with the DISCOS Database February 2010 ESOC Robert-Bosch-Str. 5, 64293 Darmstadt, Germany 3 Abstract This is a status report on geosynchronous objects as of the end of 2009. Based on orbital data in ESA’s DISCOS database and on orbital data provided by KIAM the situation near the geostationary ring (here defined as orbits with mean motion between 0.9 and 1.1 revolutions per day, eccentricity smaller than 0.2 and inclination below 30 deg) is analysed. From 1161 objects for which orbital data are available, 391 are controlled inside their longitude slots, 594 are drifting above, below or through GEO, 169 are in a libration orbit and 7 whose status could not be determined. Furthermore, there are 77 uncontrolled objects without orbital data (of which 66 have not been catalogued). Thus the total number of known objects in the geostationary region is 1238. During 2009 twenty-one spacecraft reached end-of-life. Eleven of them were reorbited following the IADC recommendations, one spacecraft was reorbited with a perigee of 225 km - it is not yet clear if it will enter the 200-km protected zone around GEO or not -, six spacecraft were reorbited too low and three spacecraft did not or could not make any reorbiting manouevre at all and are now librating inside the geostationary ring. Trends in Space Commerce
Foreword from the Secretary of Commerce As the United States seeks opportunities to expand our economy, commercial use of space resources continues to increase in importance. The use of space as a platform for increasing the benefits of our technological evolution continues to increase in a way that profoundly affects us all. Whether we use these resources to synchronize communications networks, to improve agriculture through precision farming assisted by imagery and positioning data from satellites, or to receive entertainment from direct-to-home satellite transmissions, commercial space is an increasingly large and important part of our economy and our information infrastructure. Once dominated by government investment, commercial interests play an increasing role in the space industry. As the voice of industry within the U.S. Government, the Department of Commerce plays a critical role in commercial space. Through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Department of Commerce licenses the operation of commercial remote sensing satellites. Through the International Trade Administration, the Department of Commerce seeks to improve U.S. industrial exports in the global space market. Through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, the Department of Commerce assists in the coordination of the radio spectrum used by satellites. And, through the Technology Administration's Office of Space Commercialization, the Department of Commerce plays a central role in the management of the Global Positioning System and advocates the views of industry within U.S. Government policy making processes. Electron is licensed in the USA but launched from New Zealand territory. However, in late 2018 New Zealand registered the upper stages from the Jan 2018 Electron launch with the UN. Based on this, in rev 1.4 of this document I am changing Electron to count as a New Zealand launch vehicle. -

ASTRIUM and the ARIANE programmes.................. 39 2 Data relating to Flight 210 1. Introduction Flight 210 is the 66th Ariane 5 launch and the sixth in 2012. It follows on from a series of 51 consecutive successful Ariane 5 launches. An ARIANE 5 ECA (Cryogenic Evolution type A), the most powerful version in the ARIANE 5 range, will be used for this flight. Flight 210 is a commercial mission for Ariane 5. The L566 launcher is the ninth in the A5ECA family to be delivered by ASTRIUM ST to Arianespace as part of the PB production batch. The PB production contract was signed in March 2009 to guarantee continuity of the launch service after completion of the PA batch comprising 30 launchers. The PB production batch comprises 35 A5ECA launchers and covers the period from 2010 to 2016. L566 is consequently the fortieth complete launcher to be delivered to Arianespace, integrated and checked out under ASTRIUM responsibility in the Launcher Integration Building (BIL). In a dual-payload configuration using the SYLDA 5 “A” system and a long pattern fairing (total height: 17 m), the launcher is the communications satellites EUTELSAT 21B in the upper position and STAR ONE C3 in the lower position.
