NEW COURSE DEVELOPMENT LAND 2310 – Introduction to Sustainability Redevelopment of this course in order to emphasize issues and practices of sustainability. LAND 2310 – Landscape Ecology Processes & Materials This course had been on the books, but had not been taught since 1998, until spring of 2010. Focuses on the foundations of environmental science and ecology necessary for responsible and ethical design and use of the land. LAND 4440/6440 – Field Study: The Plant Communities of the Cherokee Landscape This course focuses on the plant communities of the ancestral Cherokee homeland in the Southern Appalachians, and investigate the changing landscape along the route of the , terminating in northeastern . HIPR 4680/6680 – Design Charrette: Tsa-La-Gi 18th Century Cherokee Village 6

Design application of knowledge gained in LAND 4440/6440 through the design of an educational replica of a 1710 Cherokee Village. LAND 6400 – Plant Communities of the Southeast Refinement of course developed by Darrel Morrison, FASLA focusing on field study of native plants in the coastal plain, piedmont and mountains of the Southeastern United States. ENGR/LAND 4660/6660 – Sustainable Building Design Co-developed a cross-listed course that will address specific green building technologies, practices and processes. LAND 4730 – Issues & Practices in Sustainable Design Developed a two credit hour required course focusing on the green building strategies, technologies and documentation recommended by the LEED Rating System. LAND 4360 – Applied Landscape Ecology This course has undergone significant revision in the nine years that I have been teaching it. Of note is the introduction of a three week GIS module in the Fall semester of 2006. LAND 4911/6911 – Chattahoochee River Corridor Studio Worked with several other UGA faculty and outreach staff to develop a funded summer studio that identified opportunities to enhance the quality of life in the Chattahoochee corridor through the development of cultural and natural heritage tourism. LAND 6912 – Special Environmental Studio I developed this summer studio in direct response to funding obtained by former Dean Jack Crowley to produce an environmental inventory and development suitability analysis for the Hardin property which was recently acquired by the University of Georgia. LAND 1600 – Reading the Landscape Significantly revised this freshman introductory class to present a rigorous survey of information necessary for beginning landscape architects to successfully observe, interpret and communicate information about the landscape around them.
