MATCH DAY PROGRAM 27 May 2017 MATCH DAY PROGRAM 27th May 2017 Photo courtesy of AT Photo UPPER HUTT CITY VS WESTERN SUBURBS MAIDSTONE PARK - KO 3:00 PM A message from Mark . The last couple of weeks has seen has play in the Chatham Cup against a very spirited Kapiti side and away on grass (first time for many a moon) against one the best defences in the league, Tawa. Cup football is always exciting and where dreams are made, this game marked the start of our dream, which we managed to keep alive thanks to an early goal from Josh. The remainder of the game was a midfield battle with very few chances created. Overall in my view we did enough to progress, with the added positives of not picking up any injuries or yellow cards. So into the hat we go for the next round, fingers crossed for a good draw, 1. At home (YES), 2. Not a Central League team (YES), 3. Not Petone, as we play them on the Saturday before (YES), 4. Anyone Else (YES) – We drew Tawa at home on Queens Birthday Monday. Long live the dream! Back to our bread and butter, the league, Tawa away on grass. This game was to have many challenges, as I said we had not played on grass for nearly a year and it certainly showed, our passing wasn’t as slick as it had been and combined with Tawa’s very high line, it proved to be very scrappy, stop start affair. Tawa did manage to score with one of their few raids into our half via a deflection that looped over Logan’s head, game on. Tawa’s high line and our inability to break through caused for a few more grey hairs (yeah I know, is it possible) and we went to the break 1 down. City Review A message from Mark . The second half got underway with us still in the changing rooms, not literary but mentally and Tawa should have doubled their lead. Luckily their striker had his boots on the wrong feet and put it wide. It seemed to kick start us into action in where we dominated possession and territory but again to our frustrations no joy and more offside flags than Sheldon has on the Big Bang Theory. We introduced Sam P with about 25 to play and with his first touch drew us level after some good work from Jeremy. We pressed hard to find a winner but with no success and had to settle for a draw. Today marks the start of 3 consecutive home games in which will be pivotal to our season, starting with welcoming Jamie, the staff and the Wests players to Maidstone Park. Wests have made a solid start to their season and I’m sure want to push on with their aspirations. Most of their squad form part of the Ole academy who have a good possession based style of play. This will certainly suit our style between us and I’m sure it will produce a cracking game to watch. This game also marks the half way point in the league, where has that time gone! Thanks to all the supporters who ventured out to Redwood Park and other venues to support the team, your support is certainly appreciated. Hope you enjoy the game, look forward to catching up with you in the clubhouse to discuss the finer matters of the game, don’t forget yell for the orange! Foz City Review Introducing your teams . Anthony Hudson’s men will have to do just that at next month’s FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, where they will come up against the hosts, Mexico and Portugal – all countries ranked far higher than the All Whites current standing of 112th but ones McGlinchey is relishing the prospect of taking on. His bullish approach stems largely from the All Whites’ noteworthy tour of the USA at the back end of last year – which brought a 2-1 loss to Mexico and 1-1 draw against the States – as well as an unbeaten start to OFC Stage 3 qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup against New Caledonia and Fiji.

We Are North Shore SATURDAY 13th MAY 2017 – KICK OFF 2PM CHATHAM CUP – RD1 OFFICIAL MATCH DAY PROGRAMME OPPOSITION: METRO FC HEAD COACH– Tom Speers Good afternoon and welcome back to the the Hill for the 1st round of the Chatham Cup. I would like to welcome Mike and his Metro team here today, I expect it to be a lot tighter game than when they visited in the first game of season and I'm sure they will be looking to do a lot better than the 7-0 they experienced here that day. I love being part of the Cup and as there is only one cup competition in NZ I'm looking forward to hopefully going far. This club has a rich history in this cup, winning it 6 times, the last being in 1986, so fingers crossed we can progress into the later rounds of the competition and be there or there about towards the end. You can see the success we have had in this competition all over the clubhouse walls and talking with former players who have won it, we know how important it is to the club that we represent the club properly, so unlike the rumours I have been hearing, we will be playing a full strength squad and hoping every club in this competition do the same, resting players when you only have 1 game a week would be disrespectful to the longest cup competition on the planet and also be quite embarrassing for the clubs that do so. I hope you have a good day and hopefully see us progress, get behind the boys and make some noise.

Our Men’s First Team’s game against Waterside Karori was abandoned last weekend due to a clash causing the Wharfies keeper, Gabe Cooper, to be knocked out and rushed to hospital. He was discharged and feeling positive, and will be having follow-up tests. Our thoughts go out to Gabe and his family. The game will be replayed later in the season. The lads are showing a great deal of team spirit as they are fighting hard for points every week, showing the intensity needed to succeed in this very competitive Central League. With plenty of support for them this week with a larger-than-usual Old Timers’ Day crowd, we hope for some points today – COYB. Our Women’s First Team had a 4-1 win over Seatoun last week, having going 1-0 behind after two minutes. The team have gained seven points in the last four games, starting to get the results they deserve as they continue to play well. Our Men’s Reserve Team had a Petone FC Programme valuable win against Victoria University editor/designer – two weeks ago and a 1-1 draw with Iain MacIntyre (MacIntyre Wharfies last week.

It’s been a month since we played at Hutt Park. A tough away encounter at Wests, a Chatham Cup game in the polar wind tunnel at Wakefield Park against Island Bay and then another night game in freezing conditions against Lower Hutt at Fraser. Well it’s nice to be home and playing during the daytime — on grass! Season two back in Central League has seen an improved start to the campaign. In fact our last home defeat was close to a year ago on the 13th June 2015 against you guessed it — Napier City Rovers. This season has seen a host of yellows and reds being handed out—something like 8 reds in all games we’ve been involved in already! And that seems to be consistent with our Central and Capital Premier colleagues with a host of games being impacted in this way.

  • MATCH DAY PROGRAM 19 August 2017
MATCH DAY PROGRAM 19th August 2017 Photo courtesy of AT Photo UPPER HUTT CITY VS WELLINGTON UNITED MAIDSTONE PARK - KO 1:00 PM A message from Gibby . We’ve managed 3 games in 11 days which has been a tough ask for this end of the season, but what an 11 days! First up we had PNM in the Knockout Cup Quarter Final. Leading up to this game we’d won a game apiece, and drawn 1-1 so it was always going to be a tight game. These games are always tough physical battles and this was no exception. Both teams were throwing everything they had into it, which was reflected in the half time score of 0-0. The second 45 was just as tough as the first, and we managed to get on the score sheet when PNM gave the ball away in their defensive third and Lena de Ronde capitalised by driving a cross into the 6 yard box and Emma Main nipped in front of her defender to tuck the ball away. 1-0. PNM are the sort of team that never gives up, and they struck back after a ball over the top was picked up by their striker and they slotted the ball into the far post tying the game up 1-1. Cup matches need a result, and so into extra time we went. Both teams were showing the effects of a long hard tussle, but through sheer grit and determination we pushed forward, and sent a cross into the box for Lena de Ronde to pop up at the far post driving the ball into the net to take us 2-1 up.

The equivalent of England's FA Cup, the trophy was gifted to the New Zealand Football Association by the crew of HMS Chatham, as a means of thanking the New Zealand public for the great goodwill shown the sailors during their time in this part of the world. It has become the most sought after honour in New Zealand soccer, with a record number of teams - 172 - entering the competition in 1991, the NZFA's centenary season. University-Mt. Wellington have won the trophy seven times, one more than both Christchurch United and North Shore United, who have reached the final on twelve occasions. Eastern Suburbs and Central United boast the next best records, with five triumphs apiece.

The First Word My blood is red… and gold! Well it was an interesting Easter break that saw the ―Prems‖ earn a last minute penalty to record an away draw at Marist. It was a game the coaching staff and players felt we did enough to win but football’s all about finishing and perhaps an away point is better than a loss! And then for the Chatham Cup game on Monday Besim was able to rest a couple of senior players and blood some youth as we cruised past the hapless Naenae side 4 nil.
