MATCH DAY PROGRAM 27th May 2017 Photo courtesy of AT Photo UPPER HUTT CITY VS WESTERN SUBURBS MAIDSTONE PARK - KO 3:00 PM A message from Mark . The last couple of weeks has seen has play in the Chatham Cup against a very spirited Kapiti side and away on grass (first time for many a moon) against one the best defences in the league, Tawa. Cup football is always exciting and where dreams are made, this game marked the start of our dream, which we managed to keep alive thanks to an early goal from Josh. The remainder of the game was a midfield battle with very few chances created. Overall in my view we did enough to progress, with the added positives of not picking up any injuries or yellow cards. So into the hat we go for the next round, fingers crossed for a good draw, 1. At home (YES), 2. Not a Central League team (YES), 3. Not Petone, as we play them on the Saturday before (YES), 4. Anyone Else (YES) – We drew Tawa at home on Queens Birthday Monday. Long live the dream! Back to our bread and butter, the league, Tawa away on grass. This game was to have many challenges, as I said we had not played on grass for nearly a year and it certainly showed, our passing wasn’t as slick as it had been and combined with Tawa’s very high line, it proved to be very scrappy, stop start affair. Tawa did manage to score with one of their few raids into our half via a deflection that looped over Logan’s head, game on. Tawa’s high line and our inability to break through caused for a few more grey hairs (yeah I know, is it possible) and we went to the break 1 down. City Review A message from Mark . The second half got underway with us still in the changing rooms, not literary but mentally and Tawa should have doubled their lead. Luckily their striker had his boots on the wrong feet and put it wide. It seemed to kick start us into action in where we dominated possession and territory but again to our frustrations no joy and more offside flags than Sheldon has on the Big Bang Theory. We introduced Sam P with about 25 to play and with his first touch drew us level after some good work from Jeremy. We pressed hard to find a winner but with no success and had to settle for a draw. Today marks the start of 3 consecutive home games in which will be pivotal to our season, starting with welcoming Jamie, the staff and the Wests players to Maidstone Park. Wests have made a solid start to their season and I’m sure want to push on with their aspirations. Most of their squad form part of the Ole academy who have a good possession based style of play. This will certainly suit our style between us and I’m sure it will produce a cracking game to watch. This game also marks the half way point in the league, where has that time gone! Thanks to all the supporters who ventured out to Redwood Park and other venues to support the team, your support is certainly appreciated. Hope you enjoy the game, look forward to catching up with you in the clubhouse to discuss the finer matters of the game, don’t forget yell for the orange! Foz City Review Introducing your teams . Anthony Hudson’s men will have to do just that at next month’s FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, where they will come up against the hosts, Mexico and Portugal – all countries ranked far higher than the All Whites current standing of 112th but ones McGlinchey is relishing the prospect of taking on. His bullish approach stems largely from the All Whites’ noteworthy tour of the USA at the back end of last year – which brought a 2-1 loss to Mexico and 1-1 draw against the States – as well as an unbeaten start to OFC Stage 3 qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup against New Caledonia and Fiji.
