3 ABOUT THAME TOWN CRICKET CLUB

Thame Town CC is a well established cricket club in the County of Oxfordshire. Situated in the centre of the historic market town of Thame, the Club enjoys a picturesque setting at Church Meadow. The club was founded in 1874 and organised cricket has been played in the town since this date, with suspensions in 1914 - 1919 and 1940 - 1945. The Club moved to Church Meadow in 1975, taking a lease from Oxfordshire County Council and created the cricket ground and pavilion from scratch from the existing low-grade agricultural land and derelict farm buildings. The Club caters for serious, committed and competitive adult and youth cricketers as well as those who enjoy only the occasional game. The Club currently plays in The Cherwell Cricket League. It fields three adult teams on Saturdays and one on Sundays, as well as five junior teams in respective Oxfordshire and leagues. We also run a number of friendly matches throughout the season for all age groups. The Club is recognised by the and Wales Cricket Board as one of four ‘Focus Clubs’ in by virtue of its standards, youth coaching programmes, Clubmark status and links with Lord Williams School.

In 2015 we had 36 adult playing members, 71 junior playing members, 25 Women playing members and over 100 social and family members. We have 10 UKCC qualified coaches plus an overseas player/coach.

4 CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

Welcome to the new season. We had an excellent year at the club, and it is worth noting some of the highlights as we move forward into 2016.

Strong and stable organisation through the Club Committee, senior teams, coaching and junior team management has resulted in significant on- and off-field progress. Our achievements were recognised in the wider arena and we were chosen as an Oxfordshire Club of the Year finalist in 2015. We continued refurbishing the clubhouse, which in the last 24 months has included new furniture, kitchen, bar fittings and fridges. Outside, we purchased new nets and a new boundary rope, and continue to benefit from Farol’s generosity in sponsoring our principal groundcare equipment. We organised a very successful Open Day again in 2015, and held a Summer Ball in July which was a great success, the first one in recent years, and we are well underway planning another one for this summer. At the beginning of the year, Croudace Homes and Mobalpa Kitchens renewed their two-year sponsorships, and we thank them for their continued support. New secondary sponsors have come on board and we are expanding this area of activity in 2016. I would also like to thank all our Life Presidents and Vice-Presidents, noting with sadness the passing of Gerald Bukley earlier this year.

It was, however, on the field where we showed the clearest results and progress. The First XI won the Cherwell League for the first time in the Club’s history, and have gained promotion back into the Home Counties Premier Cricket League. The team went undefeated throughout the league season, and also won the Wilf Bennett Oxfordshire knockout trophy. A big thanks to Mike Higgs and the guys for these achievements – it is pleasing to note that twelve of the sixteen 2015 First Team squad are local Thame guys, many graduating through the Club’s junior sides. Our Seconds and Thirds also had good seasons, the latter reaching the lower League Knockout final. In 2015 we ran a very successful Crick-Fit programme for Women and Girls cricket and held a softball tournament at the Club. As a result we have gained a number of new members and are developing this in 2016. Thanks to Sheena Beard for leading this fantastic initiative. In the Juniors, we had an excellent U-15’s side, several promising players at U-13 and U-11 level, and a large and talented U-9 squad who competed in both the Oxon and Bucks leagues. There is a lot of talent for our coaches to work with in 2016. Two new ECB –qualified coaches joined our roster, with a third currently in the system. We have also boosted our umpiring team, with four members qualifying as Level 1 umpires for the coming season.

I would like to thank my fellow Committee members for their continuing hard work, particularly Vice-Chairman Matt Swain who is combining work on our new clubhouse development with Fixtures Secretary duties, and Christine Bruce-Morgan who after several years is standing down as Club Welfare Officer. Thank you all for your continued support, and enjoy the cricket and social activities at Church Meadow in what promises to be an exciting year at Thame Town Cricket Club!

Angus Lachlan Thame Town Cricket Club Chairman 5 2016 SEASON New for 2016

Clubhouse development A joint planning application between Thame Town Council and Thame Town CC has been submitted for the new Pavilion on the South Oxfordshire District Council’s website with the reference P16/S1048/FUL. If you would like to support the plans please log on and add your comments. The designs can be found in the ‘Supporting_Documentation’ folder or you can view them in the clubhouse. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Graham Hunt and the Town Council for their support with this project which is vital for the clubs future sustainability and will provide a valuable asset to Thame and the surrounding community. Our next step is to ramp up the fund raising efforts and we are looking for volunteers to help us in the Fund Raising team. If you are interested please contact Matt Swain

Chance to Shine and Kwik Cricket School tournament In association with Oxfordshire Cricket Board and Oxfordshire Schools Games programme we are delighted to announce our involvement in these initiatives this season which will involve TTCC coaches going into local primary and secondary schools to coach the Chance to Shine programme and a Kwik Cricket Tournament which will be held at the ground on Tuesday 24th May

34 CODE OF CONDUCT FOR YOUNG PLAYERS

Players are encouraged to • Recognise and appreciate the efforts made by coaches, parents, match official and administrators in providing the opportunity for you to play the game and enjoy playing cricket • Understand the values of loyalty and commitment to adults and team mates • Recognise that every young player has a right to expect their involvement in cricket to be safe and free from all types of abuse • Understand that if an individual or group of young players feel they are not being treated in a manner that is acceptable, then you have a right to tell an adult either at the cricket club or outside the game. Players should • Play because you want to do so, not to please coaches or parents • Remember that skill development, fun and enjoyment are the most important parts of the game • Be attentive at all training and coaching sessions • Work equally hard for yourself and your team - both will then benefit • Recognise good play by all players on your team and by your opponents • Be a sportsman - win or lose • Play to the Laws of the Game and accept, without question, all umpires decisions • Control your emotions. Verbal or physical abuse of team mates, opponents, or match officials is not acceptable • Treat all players, as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take advantage of any player. Code of Conduct for Parents & Carers It is vital to the well being of our cricket club that parents/carers take an active interest in it, and in the progress of their children. There is nothing more stimulating to young people than the thought that their efforts are appreciated. Whilst we are always looking for volunteers to assist in the running of the Club, and you will always be welcome, all we ask is your support. Through that you can be assured that we do take the welfare of our young players very seriously. Set out below is a code of conduct for the benefit of parents/carers. We instil in our young players the importance of playing the game fairly and respecting opponents, and that can be reinforced by parents/carers. • Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them • Discourage unfair play • Never argue with officials • Never force your child to participate in sport • Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performance of all • NEVER punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes • Publicly accept the official’s decisions • Support your child’s involvement and help them enjoy their sport • Use correct and proper language at all times • Verbal or physical abuse of Club Officials will not be tolerated. Transgression of this code of conduct will be discussed at committee where a probable sanction would be termination of membership.
