Basic Labs The Complete Count (CBC) The Complete Blood Count (CBC) test consists of the white blood cell count (WBC) also known as the leukocyte count, the count (RBC), the hemoglobin (Hgb), hematocrit (Hct), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), the mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), the mean corpuscular hematocrit (MCHC), the red cell distribution width (RDW), the platelet (PLT) count, and the mean platelet volume (MPV). The CBC test results typically are presented in the following format:

CBC Result Normal Reference WBC X 3.8 - 10.8 thousand/uL RBC X 4.2 - 5.8 million/uL Hgb X 13.2 - 17.1 g/dL Hct X 38.5 - 50.0 % MCV X 80.0 - 100.0 fL MCH X 27.0 - 33.0 pg MCHC X 32.0 - 36.0 g/dL RDW X 11.0 - 15.0 % PLT X 140 - 400 thousand/uL MPV X 7.5 - 11.5 fL

*Reference ranges are generally different depending on the lab or text book referenced, however, all generally are in the same approximate range.

The BMP test results are typically presented in the follow format:

BMP Result Normal Reference Range Na+ X 135 – 145 mmol/L K+ X 3.5 – 5.1 mmol/L Cl- X 98 – 110 mmol/L

CO2 X 22 – 29 mmol/L Glucose X 70 – 99 mg/dL BUN X 6 – 20 mg/dL Cr X 0.5 – 1 mg/dL Ca+ X 8.4 – 10.5 mg/dL
