Drought Updates • Pre-drought conditions still prevail in many parts of Somalia which is triggered by below None average 2020 Deyr season rainfall which was characterized by depressed rains with erratic distribution. The worst hit regions include , , , , Nuugal, Bari, Toghdheer and Sool. • Water prices have spiked in most districts in Somalia. Ceelwaaq district and surrounding areas reported the highest median water prices. • According to UNOCHA, over 83,000 have been displaced in Somalia due to water shortages since November 2020. • In response to this situation, WASH partners have scaled-up emergency water trucking, rehabilitation of water points, provision of sanitation services and hygiene kits distribution and hygiene promotion reaching to over 320K people in several districts of the country. • Observed river levels along Shabelle are currently below normal during this time of the year, while along Juba they are within normal (SWALIM). • Forecasts for the week ending on 04 April 2021 indicates that there is no rainfall expected. But the forecast ending on 10 April, there will be some rainfall activities in southern Somalia. These areas will experience some light to moderate rainfall. AWD updates According to Ministry of Health & Human Services of the Federal Government of Somalia, a total of None 68 new suspected cases of cholera were reported in week 10 from Bay (23), (14) and Banadir (31 cases) regions with no death reported.

COVID-19 WASH Cluster is conducting mass hygiene kit distribution in three states in Somalia to prevent the None Response spread of COVID-19 cases. There is ongoing hygiene kit distribution (8000 Hkts) in Banadir region aimed to reach 48, 000 people in 6 districts namely Dayniile, Kahda, Dharkinley, Hamar jajab and Heliwa. Similarly, there is an ongoing mass hygiene kit distribution in region (6,000 kts) and for South west state (15, 000 Hkts). WASH partners are encouraged to scale-up preventive activities especially safe water supply and hygiene promotion. Drought Update- • The Ministry conducted a rapid assessment to evaluate the risk of drought. The assessment MoEWR-FGS aimed to evaluate current water shortages/water scarcity and its impact, and verify the reported needs on the ground (At this particular time more than 248,356 HHs which Equivalent to 1,490,136 people across Somalia are facing shortage of water access, with heavy reliance on unprotected sources/ fetching water from long distances approximately 10-45KM. • Immediate life-saving interventions to support water are still required In the Gedo region. The Ministry is already providing emergency response to drought affected people for water trucking in the hardest hit areas of 5,000 for a month and 25,000 HHs in Afgoye with the support of UNICEF.For Covid Response; 7000HHs in Kahda and 3000HHs in Daynile The ministry also considering the existing situations has reprogramed some of its activities to water trucking to save lives of 3400 HHs for 15 days . ( Baydhabo 250 HHs, Burhakaba 250 HHs, Elberde 250 HHs, Hudur 250 HHs, Beletweyne 800 HHs, Kismayo 800 HHs, Cadaado 200 HHs, Dhusamareb 460 HHs, and Galkacyo 140 HHs )there is a need to immediately scale-up life-saving interventions of water-trucking in the worst-affected areas and Rehabilitation/construction of strategic water infrastructure (such as boreholes, shallow wells and water catchments) to sustained access to safe water. • The ministry thanks all WASH partners for their kind and generous support and appreciates your efforts to words the saving of life of people of Somalia

AOB • Market Based Programming (MBP) The SWC is developing an MBP strategy with the main objectives of harmonizing the modality in the cluster and will provide indicators for monitoring purposes. A sectoral MEB and CVA transfer values for WASH MBP activities will also be endorsed in April.
