~ The biggest and best day for Machinery ever seen at Holsworthy ~ with a massive crowd of buyers following all day!

591 MACHINERY & GOODS (VAT) – AUCTIONEER JAMES MORRISH & DAVID C KIVELL

Top call was £27,000 given for the Massey Ferguson 5440 tractor in from Raymond Tucker of Cookbury as part of their retirement sale and our 4th dispersal on the day. The Massey Ferguson 698T came in from Holsworthy Beacon sold for £8,000 and went off to Wiltshire whilst the Renault 350 sold away at £6,500 and headed for its new home in Somerset. Other interesting lots included the John Deere Gator sold to Dorset at £5,000 whilst the Case 685L tractor direct from Messrs Boundy of Camelford powered away to £3,400.

Will Prouse of Torrington saw his PTO Crimper hit £2,500 with the best of the 7 dung spreaders on the day hitting £2,400 and going to its new home in . The 5th dispersal of the day was the biggest by far and saw the Einbock Rake hit £4,600 going to Dartmoor. The best of 2 Marshall trailers hit £4,100 going to and Keenan feeder wagon at £4,000 go to with the Haste family.

Amongst the Earthmoving equipment was the Hitachi digger (not run for 2 years) hitting £4,000 whilst the Vintage Ford 550 digger sold really well and reached £2,900 again for Messrs Tucker. Messrs Rural Excess made the 200 mile round trip down from Chepstow in Wales and were well rewarded. Top call for them was £125 & £120 for chainsaws with the best of the wheel barrows to £82 whilst 10 lots of spanner sets and tap & die sets topped at £68.

Speaking after the sale James Morrish of Kivells said “A massive day today saw the biggest crowd for many years present. Despite some uncertainty in the industry related to Brexit, trade stood firm with many lots 20-30% above the reserved price! Entries for the November sale are already large with 2 dispersals of tractors & machinery from West & already entered together with final dispersal of woodworking equipment from one deceased estate scheduled to be here on Saturday 2nd November”. The first ever ‘Special Massey Ferguson Sale’ at Holsworthy saw huge interest!

The Massey Ferguson 5440 only having done 1,900 hours stole the show reaching £27,000 and going to its new home with the Spry family. Next up was the Massey Ferguson 410 which hit £3,400 whilst the P reg Massey Ferguson 165 on behalf of Dr Davis of Saltash hit £3,000. The same good vendor saw their Massey Ferguson 65 reach £2,000 with our very own Tom Rattray of Launceston hitting £1,500 for the Massey Ferguson 130 and £1,000 for the Fergie TEA20. My thanks go to Alan Snow Tractors of Launceston who kindly donated a toy Massey Ferguson childs ride on and sold on behalf of the Devon Air Ambulance which reached £90 given by David Easterbrook of . 619 MACHINERY & GOODS (NON VAT) – AUCTIONEER DAVID C KIVELL & TIM KIVELL

Another huge day saw one of the largest crowds ever seen at Holsworthy following the sale from start to finish. Top call of the day was £15,800 given for the Ford 7810 sold on behalf of the Law family and purchased by Messrs Stenlake of Launceston. Chris Ayres saw his dispersal from Newton Abbott top at £3,000 for the W reg Kubota estate tractor with the John Deere 148 estate tractor from the same home hitting £2,400 and going off to Dorset.

Amongst the other interesting lots was the yellow UTV sold by James West at £2,200 with the pick of the 21 trailers sold on the day hitting £1,500 for the 12ft livestock box from Messrs Hammett. Will Jennings saw his L reg Subaru pickup travel to Mid Devon after it was sold for £1,200 whilst the BMW estate sold at £1,000 which topped the 14 cars and vans sold on the day.

After seeing much interest, the Austin car (not running and been in a dilapidated shed for 40 years) sold to £400 for Messrs Heyward of Coryton who also saw a set of Head lights at £200 and another set at £170.

The 2nd dispersal of the day came in from Crackington Haven in Cornwall on behalf of Messrs Rogers which topped at £350 for a round granite trough with square granite at £250 & £240 with 6 others between £100- £200 from the same home. Phil Pyle of enjoyed a successful day with his Goodyear sign at £150 and his oil sign also reaching the same money. The 3rd dispersal on the day came in from Ann Kivell (following the sale of her property by Kivells) and saw a top call of £65 for a wheel barrow with many of her 70 lots selling between £30-£55. Alison Hayes of Dartmoor saw the best of her consignment hit £130 for kerb stones whilst regular vendor Nigel Cleave saw a very strong trade for his consignment of Vintage Cornish granite which topped at £490 with other pieces at £280 & £150. A restored chicken house sold well at £290 with the last lot of the day being the twin axle trailer in from Messrs James of Fremington which reached £900 and completed a wonderful day.

A nice entry today and part of a total of 259 pigs sold this week by Kivells saw the top call of the day being £130 on behalf of Messrs NB Buckland. Best cull sows hit £120 for Messrs James whilst the best penful of Gloucester old spots topped the prime pens at £100 on behalf of Messrs Buckland. Ivor Barkwill of Milton Abbott saw his best medium weight prime pigs hit £98 (x4) whilst the pick of the store pigs today came in from Becky Mills and family to top at £54 going home with the Walke family.

Messrs Foot of topped the day in the Goat section at £70 whilst Messrs RH Seery reached £65, £52 & £50 with Messrs Pascoe at £58. Plenty of potential buyers present for goats, so if you have any to sell, bring them to Holsworthy!

256 PET FOOD & EFFECTS – ANDREW VARNEY Another full consignment of pet food on behalf of Messrs Fricker of Ringwood, Hampshire which recorded a 96% clearance rate. Topping the dog food was ‘JWB puppy’ at £18 with similar to £16 and £13. Cat food ranged from £6-£14 and the pick of the fish food hit £13 for Carp pellets.

The best of the pet equipment hit £26 for a bird cage, £24 for bird crate and pairs of feeders at £22 all from Leon Smith of Bratton . 406 POULTRY & EGGS – AUCTIONEER ANDREW VARNEY & TIM KIVELL

A busy day in the poultry section with plenty of perspective purchasers ready to spend. No real star lots today however a top call of £46 for a pair of miniature chocolate silkies in from Adam Smith and selling to the Hollaway family. Lot 180 was a Blue millefleur from Messrs Blee that went off to North Cornwall with Steve Cobbledick at £35 whilst the best of the Orpington’s hit £32 for Mr Murphy and light Sussex to £32 for Messrs Manfield.
