Several pens over £76 to a top of £82.50 from 2 vendors Messrs Christie Farms of for shorn Suffolk x lambs and Godfrey and Owen Davey of Bratton for Romney x Charollais lambs.

647 DRAFT EWES 647 ewes on offer the highest entry in September seen for many years and a flying trade especially for the leaner ewes. Top of the day was £97 from Mr Shipton of . Several other pens of strong ewes over £90 plus. Mules on the day saw several pens between £76 to a top of £82. More ewes needed please!

Top Angus calves reached £248 for the best of a wonderful run from W & N Furse of with other 28 day olds at £210, £202 and £195.

Heifers topped at £345 (x4) for strong Blue heifers from Henscott Farm and going home with Chris Goaman of with others at £330 from Steve Furse of at £330 and Alan Pomeroy at £310. Plenty of buyers ready to spend with 3 new buyers in attendance today.

Holstein bulls topped at £100 (37 days) in from A & D Heyward of Coryton with others at £98 and £95 (x2) from the same farm. Johnny Britton sold 3 at £69 with Mark Burnard of at £62.

Next week’s entries include 75 striks being 20 Angus heifers (Name Sire) 6mths, 4 Hereford heifers (Name Sire) 8mths, 15 Hereford heifers (Name Sire) 6-12mths plus others. Further entries invited.

200 STORE CATTLE – 11 am Auctioneer: David Kivell 07899 960272

Trade held well this week, older cattle with flesh in short supply and more could have been sold with steers rising to £1135 for 22mth Non FA steer from Mr B Stacey of Bradford. A Highland steer from Mr K Hilborn of made £1130 with Limousins from the same farm £1125. Heifers saw the top price of the day with a British Blue from Messrs Adams of Torrington realising £1155 with other British Blues from the same farm £1030. Several 16- 18mth cattle are starting to show signs of being weathered which saw a slight reflection in the trade but still plenty over £900. The younger Continentals again sold well, a group of 12mth British Blues from Mr R Wood of Thornbury saw an average of £800 to a top of £810. Younger Continentals 7-9mths again sold to a very strong trade but again the last month’s wet weather starting to show. A good run of 14 British Blues from Messrs Veale of saw most fetch £600. The second and third quality 7-12mth Continental & Native steers saw strong bidding at £400- £470 – more needed!

GRAZING COWS Larger framed beef cows topped at £810 for a young Limousin cow from Messrs Bellamy & Crocker who sold another 3 Limousins at £710. Older beef cows to £680 and 22 year old Hereford cow sold to £500.
