Torridge District Neighbourhood Watch TORRIDGE DISTRICT NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH WEEKLY CRIME REPORT/NEWSLETTER th WEEK COMMENCING THURSDAY 20 FEBRUARY 2020 ISSUE 510 PLEASE NOTE The information below is obtained from Selected Reported Crime Incidents, restricted and sanitised, taken from Crime Sheets prepared by the Police for the Torridge District and are not Official Police Figures, and only refer to crimes of Theft and Damage. We live in one of the safest low crime areas in England and Wales. To get a more realistic view of all crime committed in Torridge you can visit the Devon and Cornwall Police Website. Fear of crime in our area is far worse than the actual crime committed. This Week's Crime Statistic's. After having 14 reported crimes of Theft and Criminal Damage committed in the whole of Torridge last week, this week we have 19, with crimes recorded on 7 days. Our average for four weeks is 14.50. 9 8 7 6 Burglary 5 Veh Crime 4 Damage 3 Theft 2 1 0 Bideford Torrington Holsworthy SUMMARY OF CRIME During the last week 12 crimes were committed in the Bideford area, 4 in the Torrington Area and 3 in the Holsworthy area. We had 3 Burglaries, 10 Vehicle Crimes, 3 of Damage and 3 of Theft. We had 0 Dwelling Burglary, 3 Non-Dwelling Burg laries, 1 Thefts of Vehicle, 1 Theft from Vehicle, 3 Theft Non-specifics, 0 Theft Pedal Cycle, 8 Damage to Vehicles, 1 Damage to Dwellings, 2 Damage to Building and 0 Damage Non-specifics. We have had no incidents included in the above of “Contained Domestic Incidents” and because they do not affect anyone else, under the Data Protection Ac t, this restricts us to what information we can pass on. This last week 11 crimes were committed in our towns and 8 in our rural areas. (3) TORRIDGE DISTRICT NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH WANTED Public spirited people required as Watch Co-ordinators Neighbourhood Watch Schemes… • Can cut crime and opportunities for crime • Can help and reassure those in fear • Encourage community awareness • Are community initiatives supported by the Police but not run by them Co-ordinators look after about 10 households, but can be any number, by passing on messages about local crime, keep minimal records and relay information from Torridge District Neighbourhood Watch. We do send out a weekly Crime Report/Newsletter by email to any members computer. Interested in joining a friendly and successful team? We live in a low crime area but we do still get crime. ………………………………………………………………………………………………… BURGLARY TO BUSINESS IN EAST-THE-WATER WITNESS APPEAL AFTER BURGLARY Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a burglary was reported in the area of East-the-Water. The incident, in which offenders entered JEWSONS along Torrington Street between Friday 28th and Saturday 29th February 2020. Police are also reminding businesses to ensure that their premises are secure at all times.
