Gilani Research Foundation is headed by Dr. Ijaz Shafi Gilani who pioneered the field of opinion polling in Pakistan and established Gallup Pakistan in 1980. Currently Dr. Gilani, who holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has taught at leading universities in Pakistan and abroad, is Chairman of Gallup Pakistan.
Lahore Tops As The Most Popular City and Reinforces The View ‘Lahore Lahore Hai!’: GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, Lahore turns out to be the most liked city of the country and most people would choose to settle down in this city.
In a survey, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country were asked the following question: “In which city will you personally like to live in?” Twenty three percent (23%) chose Lahore to reside in, followed by 16% who opted for Islamabad and 13% for Karachi. 7% mentioned their desire to settle in Faisalabad, 6% in Peshawar and 5% in Multan. 28% gave other responses. In another question the respondents were asked about their favourite city and similar responses were generated.
A detailed analysis of the survey revealed that majority in the metropolitan cities preferred to live in their own respective city; Lahore (86%), Karachi (86%) and Islamabad (82%).

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2738 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during January 2011. Error margin is estimated to be approximately + 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
