Brooklyn, NY/March 20, 2015—Celebrating the convergence of performance and visual art, BAM—in collaboration with Sotheby’s, Paddle8, and Cheim & Read—is proud to announce its 11th Annual Art Auction to benefit BAM Visual Art and its programs. Participating include Matthew Barney, Roni Horn, KAWS, Roy Lichtenstein, Dave Muller, Damian Ortega, Richard Prince, Dan Walsh, and Dustin Yellin.

In honor of BAM’s esteemed president Karen Brooks Hopkins who retires this spring, the auction features a special selection of nine works—chosen from the exciting contributions from the auction’s catalogue of internationally renowned and emerging artists—that will transfer to Sotheby’s spring contemporary sale on May 13th. Honorary Artist Chair Matthew Barney (who also donated a significant work), and Auction Chair Mark Diker helm this 14-day event which opens April 27 for registration and on Paddle8. The majority of works will be on view during the closing soiree May 11 at Cheim & Read in .

In addition to works and performances by poet and performance artist David Mramor (as Enid Ellen) and provocative CANADA gallery artist Michael Mahalchick, the closing party will feature an installation and bar created by Beverly’s. A beloved Lower East Side neighborhood bar-meets-exhibition space, Beverly’s will call upon local artists to create this one-time, site- specific watering hole along with cocktails made with the finest ingredients from Milagro tequila, and Rekya vodka.

This highly anticipated annual art event underscores BAM Visual Art’s commitment to Brooklyn’s local community of visual artists while simultaneously presenting works from artists around the world. The auction features works by:

From its inception in 1983 during the Next Wave Festival, BAM has commissioned renowned visual artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Willem de Kooning to produce Next Wave Festival posters. General Information BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, BAM Rose Cinemas, and BAMcafé are located in the Peter Jay Sharp building at 30 Lafayette Avenue (between St Felix Street and Ashland Place) in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. BAM Harvey Theater is located two blocks from the main building at 651 Fulton Street (between Ashland and Rockwell Places). Both locations house Greenlight Bookstore at BAM kiosks. BAM Fisher, located at 321 Ashland Place, is the newest addition to the BAM campus and houses the Judith and Alan Fishman Space and Rita K. Hillman Studio. BAM Rose Cinemas is Brooklyn’s only movie house dedicated to first-run independent and foreign film and repertory programming. BAMcafé, operated by Great Performances, offers a dinner menu prior to BAM Howard Gilman Opera House evening performances.
