2019/2020 Section 18: Schedule North Ayrshire Council This schedule details the current watercourse assessment, clearance and repair work to be carried out under Sections 18 and 59 of the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009.

CLEARANCE AND REPAIR WORKS The Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009 (the Act) gives the Council a duty to assess relevant bodies of water (other than canals) in its area for the purpose of ascertaining whether the condition of any such body of water gives rise to a risk of flooding. Where a water body gives rise to flood risk, and the Council considers clearance and repair works would substantially reduce that risk, the Council must prepare a schedule of those works and carry them out. The Schedule is available on request, fulfilling the Council's statutory duty of making it available for public inspection. The Schedule of Clearance and Repair is presented in Tables 1 to 3 of this publication. The list of trash screens (Table 1), watercourses (Table 2) and culverted watercourses (Table 3) is noted along with locations and maintenance / inspection schedules.

Reactive works will be carried out after prioritisation as conditions dictate. If significant pressure is placed on resources from works not specifically included in the Schedule, planned work may have to be deferred. This will principally depend on reactive works in response to flood events and / or reported flood risk. The Council’s emerging Asset Management System sets out a regime of risk-based inspections that identify potential flooding issues. Reports from other sources, such as the public, also inform the Schedule. Only works that are considered necessary to reduce flood risk are included in this schedule. Proposed schedule may be subject to variation dependent on external factors such as funding, site specific constraints, operative safety and extreme weather conditions e.g. drought, storms, snow, etc.
