Course requirements forPlant Systematicsfor Horticultural engineers (BSc) 2019/2020 II. Semester -Amended for distance learning during the Coronavirus outbreak-

All students will be oriented about duties during the distance learning period on the Neptun interface. Follow the written indications carefully! During lab and theory classes, the teacher/lab attendant will be available online, students may contact her/him for any questions.

I.The following tasks must be fulfilled in order to complete the course:

1.Theoretical lectureswill be uploaded to the e-learning interface of SZIU (https://elearning.szie.hu) eachweekimmediatelyaftertheregularlecturetime. The PowerPoint presentations will be handed out along with the corresponding text. At the end of each PowerPoint presentation, self-check questionnaires will be available to help students preparing for the exam. Solving the questionnaire is recommended and can be further discussed with the lecturer upon student’s request.

2.Laboratory practice will consist of weekly lab exercise sheets. Downloading and solving these exercises is mandatory.A first short laboratory testof 10 points was already held at the beginning of the semester. Each third online exercise week will be followed by an online lab test (two tests overall) worth 25 points each, the details of which will be sent out during the e-learning system.

3. Individual achievement during the semester will be rewarded with 40 points based on the evaluation of the lecturer. Evaluation will be based on the written results of working groups on Systematics topics advertised beforehand. Insufficiently developed topics will not be marked. We will make possible the presentation of the best works.

4.Knowledge on Plant Morphology and Plant Systematics is taught during field practice organizedinthe Soroksár Botanical Garden(one week between11-15May) and knowledge will be examined with a test worth 40 points.The students will be advised electronically whether the postponement of the field practice will be necessary.

5. During the semester the students have to prepare a 50 pieces herbarium collection. The herbarium collection is mandatory, and it will be prepared individually by each student, according to the 4 herbarium manual uploaded to the learning interface. Students will have to have the herbarium accepted at the end of the semester. The oral colloquium during the final exam will be based on the herbarium.

Students who could not achieve the minimum of(50 (70) total score, have one possibility to re-write the online lab tests. In case of re-takingthe test, the new result overwrites the previous one. After these tests, there will be no other option for getting the signature and entering the exam!

III. Exam: The exam consists of a written test (100 points) and an oral exam (50 points),The oralexam will bebased on the student’s own 50herbarium pieces. Students may enter the oral exam only with a 50% score on the written test. An insufficiently prepared and known herbarium (e.g., not knowing species’ latin name) may lead to failure of the exam (even given a successful written test).

Evaluationscale of theexamscores: 0-74= insufficient (1) 75-92= sufficient (2) 93-110= average (3) 111-131= good (4) 132-150 = excellent (5)

Preparatory exam questions will be made available on the department webpage during the semester. Solving these questions is highly recommended.

IV. Office hours All students are strongly advised to consult the teacher, individually or in groups, during online office hours. 5

Conditions for accepting the semester forrolling students

1. 10 points short Lab test 2. Two online lab tests 3. Individual practice work 4. Herbarium acceptance 5. Recognition test in Soroksár Botanical Garden(if held)

The tests have to be written at the same time as the first year full time students. The substitution of the testsis only possible under the conditions of the course requirement. If higher grade students cannot attend the tests, due to other requirements of other departments, they must provide a certificate from the involved teacher or department.
