Offered in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, colors and textures, houseplants beautify our homes and help soften our environment. They have been scientifically proven to improve our health by lowering blood pressure and removing pollutants from the air we breathe. When selecting a houseplant, choose reputable suppliers who specialize in growing houseplants. Get off to a good start by thoroughly examining each plant. Watch for brown edges and spindly growth with elongated stems and large gaps between new leaves. Inspect leaves and stem junctions for signs of insect or disease problems. Check any support stakes to make sure they are not hiding broken stems or branches. Finally, make sure the plant is placed in an area that suits its optimal requirements for light, temperature and humidity. Where to Place Your House Plants With the exception of the very darkest areas, you can always find a houseplant with growth requirements to match the environmental conditions in your home. The most important factors are light intensity and duration. The best way to determine the intensity of light at a window exposure area is to measure it with a light meter. A light meter measures light in units called foot-candles. One foot-candle is the amount of light from a candle spread over a square foot of surface area. Plants that prefer low light may produce dull, lifeless-looking leaves when exposed to bright light. Bright light can also cause leaf spots or brown-tipped scorched margins. -

This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. It includes many exotic genera that are grown in Oregon as ornamentals plus other plants of interest worldwide. The genera that are Oregon natives are printed in a blue font. Genera that are exotics are shown in black, however genera in blue may also contain non-native species. Names separated by a slash are alternatives or else the nomenclature is in flux. When several genera have the same common name, the names are separated by commas. The order of the family names is from the linear listing of families in the APG III report. For further information, see the references on the last page. The process of urbanization from 2000 was analyzed in the area of "one major city with three vice cities and six groups", according to the urban master planning of Hangzhou from 2001 to 2020. The results show that dramatic changes have occurred for land use types during the ten years from 2000 to 2010 in Hangzhou, of which urban land has become the main type of land use and the area of arable land has presented serious loss. This study found that the Gramineae and Compositae species were the main groups of ruderals in 1665 quadrats, which reflected the characteristics of a few large families. The number of Monotypic and Oligotypic family/genera accounted for 67.3% of the total number of families and 97.5% of the total number of genera. -

Taxa of Veronica genus were identified in 311 plant associations and 36 subassociations framed in 132 alliances. Of the 311 plant associations, 138 are included in various types of NATURA 2000 Habitats. The review of phytosociological data reveals the presence of Veronica taxa in 42 types of Natura 2000 habitats with scientific significance. Some of these Veronica taxa are characteristic species for alliances (i.e. Veronicion baumgartenii Coldea 1991, Veronico officinalis-Quercion Pop 1971) or differential species at plant association level (Veronico baumgartenii-Saxifragetum bryoidis Boşcaiu et al. 1977). As regards their systematic position, Veronica species were included until recently in the Scrophularioideae (Antirrhinoideae) subfamily, Scrophulariaceae family, Scrophulariales order, Asterideae subclass, Magnoliopsida class [7]. Because there are several classification systems for this genus, here we mention three of them, which we consider most recent. -

(Plantaginaceae sensu APG 2003, formerly Scrophulariaceae) namely Veronica persica, V. bachofenii, V. urticifolia, V. agrestis, V. austriaca, V. chamaedrys, V. officinalis, V. orchidea, V. spicata, V. beccabunga, V. hederifolia, V. prostrata. In these species we have determined the aucubin and catalpol content by using a HPLC analysis with mass spectrometry detection. The content of aucubin is varying from 799.8 µg% in Veronica persica to 43.4 µg% in Veronica beccabunga. The highest content of catalpol is found in Veronica spicata (318.8 µg%) and the lowest in Veronica beccabunga (27.6 µg%), respectively. (Plantaginaceae după APG 2003, înainte Scrophulariaceae): Veronica persica, V. bachofenii, V. urticifolia, V. agrestis, V. austriaca, V. chamaedrys, V. officinalis, V. orchidea, V. spicata, V. beccabunga, V. hederifolia, V. prostrata. Scopul lucrării a fost determinarea cantitativă prin analiză HPLC cuplată cu spectrometrie de masă a aucubinei şi catalpolului. Conţinutul de aucubină variază în speciile cercetate de la 799,8 µg% pentru Veronica persica, la 43,4 µg% pentru Veronica beccabunga. -
