Unique and Diverse
• Almost the entire length of Pocklington Canal falls within 3 SSSIs; the canal is virtually unchanged since it was opened in 1818 • Hornsea Mere is largest natural lake in Yorkshire and the only surviving example of a mere created by glacial retreat. • The area around the River Hertford hosts archaeo- logical treasures including the UK’s oldest house. • Gypsey Race is Europe’s most northerly chalk stream. • Leven Canal is a SSSI for its whole length. • The River Foulness is the centre of a prehistoric and Roman settlement.
