We cannot wait for the premiere of “School of Rock” on Nickelodeon. The show—which has a similar premise of the 2003 film starring Jack Black—makes its debut on March 12, right after the Kids Choice Awards.
In case you haven’t seen the film, its about a group of overachieving prep school students who learn to rock out and have some fun thanks to the help of their unconventional, for the lack of a better term, substitute teacher.
We recently chatted with Breanna Yde who will be playing the role of Tomika on the show. You may remember Yde from her stints on The Haunted Hathaways,” “Santa Hunters,” or her guest starring role on “Instant Mom.”
Yde auditioned for the role because she connects very closely with Tomika and she loves music.
“Music has always been a big part of my life,” she shared.
Yde is pretty much a musical jackofalltrades. She sings, writes her own songs and plays several instruments including guitar, bass guitar, drums and piano.
Her favorite musical artist is Ed Sheeran, but Tori Kelly comes in at a close second. Her musical influences include those two artists, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zepplin. With those being some of her favorites, it should come as no surprise that she enjoys performing pop, R&B and Rock n’ Roll.
On this season of “School of Rock” there will be several guest appearances including Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and Kendall Schmidt from Big Time Rush and Heffron Drive. Also to be featured are plenty of great cover tracks.
“My favorite song from Nickelodeon’s “School of Rock” is Shutup and Dance,” Yde shared.
Other covers will include The Romantics’ “What I Like About You,” Meghan Trainor’s “Lips Are Movin’,” and Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack.”
“I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks when the show premieres,” said Yde. So stay tuned to Nickelodeon after all the slime falls!
Upon the film’s release, Black—who starred as Dewey scored the MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performer. The movie also won the British Comedy Award for Best Film.
Others who are set to appear on the television show include Tony Cavalero, Ricardo Hurtado, Lance Lim, Aiden Miner and Jade Pettyjohn.
