The George Mac Regatta incorporating the George McCallum Cup for Optimists

To be conducted by Royal Brighton Yacht Club and sailed on the waters of Port Phillip

NOTICE OF RACE Revised 1st December Note: Due to the ongoing COVID restrictions announced Sunday 22nd November a number of changes to the NOR are required. The changes can be summarised as:

• Staggering of start times to adhere to the “group of 50” requirement • Removal of person to person contact wherever possible such as on-site registration

We encourage all sailors to enter and in the unlikely event that restrictions do not permit the event to go ahead we will refund 100% of your entry fee.

1 Rules 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of (RRS). The Prescriptions and Special Regulations of Australian Sailing (AS) shall apply including Part 2 (Off The Beach Boats - OTB).

2 Eligibility and Entry 2.1 The regatta is open to any OTB monohull with an AS Yardstick, as well as other classes at the discretion of the Organising Authority (OA). 2.2 Divisions and flights in individual classes may be capped to conform with the “group of 50” rule. 2.3 Online entry http://sailingresults.net/entry/default.aspx?ID=1560785 2.4 Classes may be re-allocated to divisions or flights at the discretion of the OA 2.5 Classes with sufficient numbers will be given their own division and own start. 2.6 Classes will be sailed on the following course areas as follows:

Bravo 420, , RS100/400, Waszp, , Laser Open, Aero 5 & 7,

3 Fees 3.1 Early entry fees (prior to 17:00 1st December) will apply per boat as follows;

RBYC Members Non RBYC members Single person boats $50 $65 Two person boats $70 $85

Optimists $40 $55 Quests $90 $105 3.2 Entries may also be accepted after 17:00 1st December 2020 at the discretion of the OA. Such entries will incur an additional fee of $50 per boat.

4 Schedule 4.1 To reduce person to person contact, there will be no competitor briefing. Due to the “group of 50” limit, there will not be a presentation for all competitors. Placegetters from each division will be invited to a limited presentation ceremony. 4.2 Daily schedule. Please note staggered start times. Sailors on Bravo Course are requested to delay their entry into the club to as late as possible, after 10:45 wherever possible, to allow Alpha Course sailors to clear the beach and allow adherence to the “group of 50” rule.

4.3 No warning signal will be made after 1700hrs on Sunday.

5 Measurement 5.1 Where required by class rules, each boat shall hold a valid measurement certificate. 5.2 Substitution of damaged or lost equipment will not be allowed unless authorized by the race committee. Requests for substitution shall be made to the committee at the first reasonable opportunity. 5.3 Boats may be subject to inspection at any time during the regatta.

6 Sailing Instructions 6.1 The Sailing Instructions will consist of the Instructions in RRS Appendix S, Standard Sailing Instructions and Supplementary Instructions that will be available on line no later than Thursday 3rd December at https://www.rbyc.org.au/george-mac-2020/ and emailed to all competitors registered by that date.

7 Venue 7.1 Racing will be conducted on the waters of Port Phillip in the vicinity of Royal Brighton Yacht Club, 253 Esplanade, Middle Brighton VIC 3186.

8 The Courses 8.1 The courses will be described in the Sailing Instructions. It is anticipated that courses will be trapezoid and/or windward-leeward.

9 Safety 9.1 For each race session each boat intending to race shall “sign on” either via mobile phone or at the Regatta Office before departing the beach and shall “sign off” either via mobile phone or at the Regatta Office upon their return after racing. 9.2 Failure to sign on prior to racing or off prior to protest cutoff time will result in a 3 point penalty for the first race of the day. This changes RRS A4.

10 Scoring 10.1 One race is required to be completed to constitute a series. 10.2 When three (3) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. 10.3 When four (4) or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

11 Prizes 11.1 Prizes will be awarded to boats placed first, second & third overall in each division dependant on numbers. The George McCallum Trophy will be awarded to the first placed Optimist. Additional prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the OA. Due to the “group of 50” limit, there will not be a presentation for all competitors. Placegetters from each division will be invited to a limited presentation ceremony.

12 Support Vessels 12.1 Support vessels cannot be launched at RBYC, the closest boat ramp is North Rd, Brighton. 12.2 Parking for trailers is not available at RBYC. 12.3 All support vessels shall remain at least 50 metres outside areas where boats are racing from the time of the preparatory signal until all boats have finished or the race committee signals a postponement, general recall or abandonment 12.4 Support vessels will neither create wake nor otherwise interfere with boats. 12.5 All support vessels are required to have a VHF radio and maintain a listening watch on VHF 77 or any other channel specified by the Race Committee. 12.6 When requested by the Race Committee, all support vessels shall render immediate assistance as and when directed.

13 Boat Storage 13.1 Boats may be dropped off from 15:00 Friday 4th December 2020. 13.2 Boats shall be kept in their assigned places while they are in the boat park. 13.3 Per 12.2 above, there is no storage for trailers on site at RBYC.

14 Radio Communication 14.1 Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. [DP] 15 Regatta Communications 15.1 There will be no paper communications for this event. A communication will be emailed to all entrants no later than 3rd December including Supplementary Instructions and other updates. Event Website: https://www.rbyc.org.au/george-mac-2020/ and on the Facebook Page - https://www.facebook.com/royalbrightonyachtclub/ This changes the preamble to Appendix S 15.2 The Official Notice Board will be the electronic Notice Board on the web page. 15.3 Photos will be available for you to share from our Facebook Page - https://www.facebook.com/royalbrightonyachtclub/ 16 Rights to Use Name and Likeness 16.1 In participating in this Event, a competitor automatically grants to the OA and sponsors of the George Mac the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show, from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or film television and other reproductions of him/her during the period of the said Event in which the competitor participates and in all material related to the said Event without compensation.

17 Disclaimer of Liability 17.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS Decision to Race. The OA will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the event.

18 Insurance 18.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of AUD $10 Million per incident or the equivalent. A current insurance policy number will be required to complete the online entry.

19 Clean Regatta 19.1 We are committed to clean waters and shores by participating in Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas program. We aim to fulfil, and encourage others to fulfil, the goals and requirements of Clean Regattas as set forth by Sailors for the Sea, and to work to protect and restore our waters for the enjoyment of current and future generations. 19.2 As part of this commitment, The George Mac is striving to achieve the following: 19.2.1 Engage volunteers as a ‘Green Team’ to manage our Clean Regatta effort 19.2.2 Reduce or eliminate the use of disposable plastic water bottles by encouraging the use of reusable water bottles to all participants. 19.2.3 We will provide onshore water refilling options 19.2.4 We will strive to keep our regatta site rubbish free 19.2.5 We will strive to increase the use of recyclable materials 19.2.6 We will strive to reduce paper usage through increased paperless communications 19.3 In addition, we will seek to make progress on other Best Practices as can be found at www.sailorsforthesea.org 20 Further Information 20.1 RBYC Sailing Office Telephone: (03) 9592 3092 20.2 Email: [email protected] 20.3 Web: https://www.rbyc.org.au/george-mac-2020/ 20.4 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/royalbrightonyachtclub/
