Jerusalem the golden, with milk and honey blest, There stand, those halls of Zion, all jubilant with song, beneath thy contemplation sink heart and voice oppressed: and bright with many an angel and all the martyr throng: I know not, oh, I know not what joys await us there; and they who with their Leader have conquered in the fight, what radiancy of glory, what bliss beyond compare. for ever and for ever are clad in robes of white.

Oh, sweet and blessed country, the home of God’s elect! Oh, sweet and blessed country that eager hearts expect! Jesus, in mercy bring us to that dear land of rest, who art, with God the Father, and Spirit, ever blest.

THE LESSON All sit. He will swallow up in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it. And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his .

THE 1 Corinthians 15:50-58

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

RESPONSORY Libera me, Domine Anerio

Quando coeli movendi sunt et terra: When the heavens and earth are moved: Dies illa, dies iræ, calamitatis et miseriae, that day, a day of wrath, calamity, and misery, dies magna et amara valde. will be a great and very bitter day, Dum veneris judicare saeculum per ignem. when thou comest to judge the age by fire.

Requiem æternam dona eis Domine, Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord, et lux perpetua luceat eis. and let light perpetual shine on them.

Libera me, Domine... Free me, O Lord...

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE The or other leader says In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

Almighty God, who hast knit together thine elect in one communion and fellowship, in the mystical body of thy Son Christ our Lord: Grant, we beseech thee, to thy whole Church in paradise and on earth, thy light and thy peace.

Grant that all who have been baptized into Christ’s death and resurrection may die to sin and rise to newness of life, and that through the grave and gate of death we may pass with him to our joyful resurrection.

Grant to us who are still in our pilgrimage, and who walk as yet by faith, that thy Holy Spirit may lead us in holiness and righteousness all our days.

Grant to thy faithful people and peace, that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve thee with a quiet mind.

Grant to all who mourn a sure confidence in thy fatherly care, that, casting all their grief on thee, they may know the consolation of thy love.

Help us, we pray, in the midst of things we cannot understand, to believe and trust in the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection to life everlasting.

Grant us grace to entrust all the faithful departed to thy never-failing love; receive them into the arms of thy mercy, and remember them according to the favor which thou bearest unto thy people.

Grant that, increasing in knowledge and love of thee, they may go from strength to strength in the life of perfect service in thy heavenly kingdom.

Grant us, with all who have died in the hope of the resurrection, to have our consummation and bliss in thy eternal and everlasting glory, and, with all thy saints, to receive the crown of life which thou dost promise to all who share in the victory of thy Son Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

The Necrologist reads the following petition and the names from the Necrology; the tower bell tolls as names are read.

Gracious Lord, thou callest us each by name: hear us as we remember before thee thy servants:

The Necrology is printed on the following pages. The Congregation may add additional names of the departed in the silence that follows.

CONFESSION OF SIN AND ABSOLUTION All kneel. Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against thy holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare thou those who confess their faults, restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

The Priest stands and says

The Almighty and merciful Lord grant you absolution and remission of all your sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. Amen.

SANCTUS sung by the Choir Anerio Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus, Dominus Deus Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts: Sabaoth. Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria tua. Heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Osanna in excelsis. in the highest. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Osanna in excelsis. Hosanna in the highest.

The congregation may kneel or stand.

All glory be to thee, Almighty God, our heavenly Father, for that thou, of thy tender mercy, didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption; who made there, by his one of himself once offered, a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death and sacrifice, until his coming again.

For in the night in which he was betrayed, he took bread; and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is my Body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink ye all of this; for this is my Blood of the New Testament, which is shed for you, and for many, for the remission of sins. Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Wherefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, according to the institution of thy dearly beloved Son our Savior Jesus Christ, we, thy humble servants, do celebrate and make here before thy divine Majesty, with these thy holy gifts, which we now offer unto thee, the thy Son hath commanded us to make; having in remembrance his blessed passion and precious death, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; rendering unto thee most hearty thanks for the innumerable benefits procured unto us by the same.

And we most humbly beseech thee, O merciful Father, to hear us; and, of thy almighty goodness, vouchsafe to bless and sanctify, with thy Word and Holy Spirit, these thy gifts and creatures of bread and wine; that we, receiving them according to thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ’s holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed Body and Blood.

And we earnestly desire thy fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; most humbly beseeching thee to grant that, by the merits and death of thy Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in his blood, we, and all thy whole Church, may obtain remission of our sins, and all other benefits of his passion.

And here we offer and present unto thee, O Lord, our selves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy, and living sacrifice unto thee; humbly beseeching thee that we, and all others who shall be partakers of this Holy Communion, may worthily receive the most precious Body and Blood of thy Son Jesus Christ, be filled with thy grace and heavenly benediction, and made one body with him, that he may dwell in us, and we in him.

And although we are unworthy, through our manifold sins, to offer unto thee any sacrifice, yet we beseech thee to accept this our bounden duty and service, not weighing our merits, but pardoning our offenses, through Jesus Christ our Lord;

By whom, and with whom, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, all honor and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty,

THE PEACE All stand. Priest Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord: People And let light perpetual shine upon them. Priest May their souls, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, : People And rise in glory. Amen. Priest The peace of the Lord be always with you. People And with thy spirit. All may greet one another in the Lord’s name.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING Eucharistic Prayer I All remain standing

It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God. Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who rose victorious from the dead, and doth comfort us with the blessed hope of everlasting life; for to thy faithful people, O Lord, life is changed, not ended; and when our mortal body doth lie in death, there is prepared for us a dwelling place eternal in the heavens. Therefore with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious Name; evermore praising thee, and saying,

The Lord’s Prayer sung by all, kneeling

The Breaking of the Bread A brief silence is kept.

Celebrant The Gifts of God for the People of God.

The Book of Prayer reminds us that if one is unable to consume the consecrated bread and wine due to extreme sickness or disability, the desire is enough for God to grant all the benefits of communion (BCP, p. 457). When being present at a celebration of the Eucharist is impossible, this act of prayer and meditation can provide the means by which we can associate ourselves with the Eucharistic Action and open ourselves to God’s grace and blessing.

Come Lord Jesus, and dwell in my heart in the fullness of thy strength; be my wisdom and guide me in right pathways; conform my life and actions to the image of thy holiness; and, in the power of thy gracious might, rule over every hostile power that threatens or disturbs the growth of thy kingdom, who, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, livest and reignest, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. ( is excerpted from Augustine’s Prayer Book.)

All baptized persons are welcome to receive Holy Communion if they so desire. The ushers will guide you to Communion at the foot of the Crossing platform. (Those in the Nave are asked to approach by way of the center aisle, and return by way of the side aisles.) Those not wishing to receive Communion are invited to come forward for a blessing.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER said by the Celebrant

Almighty God, we thank thee that in thy great love thou hast fed us with the spiritual food and drink of the Body and Blood of thy Son Jesus Christ, and hast given unto us a foretaste of thy heavenly banquet. Grant that this Sacrament may be unto us a comfort in affliction, and a pledge of our inheritance in that kingdom where there is no death, neither sorrow nor crying, but the fullness of joy with all thy saints; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

7+(&200(1'$7,21

Celebrant Give rest, O Christ, to thy servants with thy saints, All where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

Celebrant Thou only art immortal, the creator and maker of mankind; and we are mortal, formed of the earth, and unto earth shall we return. For so thou didst ordain when thou createdst me, saying, “Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” All we go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our song: , alleluia, alleluia.

All Give rest, O Christ, to thy servants with thy saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

The Celebrant says Into thy hands, O merciful Savior, we commend all thy faithful servants. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech thee, sheep of thine own fold, lambs of thine own flock, sinners of thine own redeeming. Receive them into the arms of thy mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

THE BLESSING The Celebrant blesses the people, and all say Amen.

HYMN Abide with me: fast falls the eventide Eventide

Abide with me: fast falls the eventide I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless, The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide: ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. when other helpers fail and comforts flee Where is death’s sting? where, grave, thy victory, help of the helpless, O abide with me. I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

Hold thou the cross before my closing eyes; shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies; heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
