1 A Message from the President

It is a real pleasure and privilege to have been chosen to be the president of the 2018 Caerwys Agricultural Show and I would like to thank those who have supported my nomination.

Caerwys is extremely fortunate to still have its show and it would not happen without the support and hard work each year of the local , it is a credit to the committee, volunteers, competitors and visitors. I would like to say a huge thank-you to all those who give up their precious time to make the show happen, it is this dedication and effort that makes the show the tremendous success it is today, and I hope that it continues long into the future.

I have never been a member of the show committee, but as a family since arriving in Caerwys in 1952 we have attended and supported many of the shows in numerous ways even hosting the event on a number of occasions. It has always been a happy event and brings back many happy cherished memories.

I will be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for a fantastic day of sunshine on the second Saturday in June and wish you all good luck and success.

Grace Lees (nee Barlow) President 2018

PR 13 Set recipe – Lemon Drizzle Cake

Ingredients 225g unsalted butter, softened 225g caster sugar 225g self-raising flour 4 eggs Finely grated zest of 1 lemon Drizzle Topping The juice of 1 & half lemons 85g caster sugar

Method Heat oven to 180C / Gas 4

Beat together 225g softened unsalted butter with 225g caster sugar until pale and creamy, then add 4 eggs, one at a time, slowly mixing through. Sift in 225g flour, then add the finely grated zest of 1 lemon and mix until well combined. Line a loaf tin (8 x 21cm) with greaseproof paper, then spoon in the mixture and level the top with a spoon.

Bake for 45–50 minutes until a thin skewer inserted into centre of the cake comes out clean. While the cake is cooling in its tin, mix together the juice of 1 & half lemons and 85g caster sugar to make the drizzle. Prick the warm cake all over with a skewer or fork then pour over the drizzle-the juice will sink in and the sugar will form a lovely crisp topping.
