Elevations range from 4,513 to 12,009 feet above sea level offering a great variety of topography and vegetation. The Forest extends from northern to the country in . The Forest contains four downhill ski areas, including the world-premiere Ski Area at Sun . At 217,088 acres, the offers 250 miles of trails, 42 major peaks over 10,000 feet and 300 lakes.

Community Information: Burley, Idaho The population of Burley is approximately 10,000 and is a full service community. Population within the immediate vicinity approaches 20,000. Numerous schools, churches and shopping opportunities exist within the Mini-Cassia (Minidoka and Cassia County) area, along with Cassia Regional Medical Center and Minidoka Memorial Hospital. Housing in Burley is very reasonable and would be considered cheap compared to other areas of the west. Burley is located just 35 miles from Twin Falls, which has a regional airport and most major shopping outlets. Situated along the the City of Burley provides access to the 20 miles of the most approachable shoreline of the entire river. Located on both the south and north sides of the river, this access offers many opportunities for water sports and fishing. The city also has numerous parks and recreational facilities, including two golf courses. Burley serves as the major shopping center for the Mini-Cassia area. A temperate climate, beautiful scenery, numerous recreations opportunities that can be enjoyed without the large crowds typical of larger urban areas make this a desirable place to live.

Stanley, Idaho Stanley is a remote rural community with a base population of 100, located at the foothills of the awesome Sawtooth Mountains. It is known for its excellent recreation opportunities; , , fishing, camping, , white water rafting and kayaking, snowmobiling, adventures, and cross country skiing. The climate can be extreme. may extend from November through mid-May with temperatures dropping to -20(F) degrees for a week or so in January. The area has a year round Medical Clinic staffed with an on-call physician’s assistance. Major medical services are available 60 miles south in Ketchum, Idaho, or 120 miles southwest in Boise. The same distances apply for shopping for other than basic grocery items. There are several sporting goods shops and good restaurants open in the summer months. Ketchum, Idaho Ketchum is a 4 season resort community located in the heart of the . The communities of Hailey, Bellevue and Sun Valley lie within close commuting distance to the city of Ketchum. The Wood River Valley is a full service area, with an excellent school system serving grades K-12. Medical services exist in both Hailey and Ketchum, in addition to one hospital and numerous medical clinics offering many types of specialized physicians. Shopping exist for all necessary goods, and can be done locally. In addition to the resort atmosphere at Sun Valley, the local area provides many cultural events including top musical artists, sporting events and art/music festivals. World Class outdoor recreation opportunities exist generally within 30-45 minutes of anyone living in the valley and include; and snowboarding on the legendary Sun Valley Resort “Bald Mountain”, over 160 kilometers of Nordic ski trails, thousands of acres of snowmobiling opportunities, hundreds of miles of single track mountain biking, hiking and motorcycle trails, incredible fishing opportunities in the Salmon River, Big Wood, Big Lost and world famous Silver Creek and excellent bird and big game hunting opportunities.. Fairfield, Idaho The Fairfield Ranger District is approximately 400,000 acres with lots of back country opportunities. The District maintains over 400 miles of trails (hiking, horseback and motorized), numerous campgrounds and plenty of recreational opportunities. Winter recreation is also very popular, we have over 50 miles of groomed trails with endless backcountry opportunities and ski hill is located 12 miles north of town. Fairfield is located on a high prairie and experiences all four seasons. Summers are warm, with highs in the 90’s and very little rainfall, great for camping and getting into the back country. Fairfield is a quiet rural Idaho town with a population of approximately 450. As in any small town, amenities are scarce but we do have a store, a bank, and numerous restaurants. The full service communities of Boise and Twin Falls are within 100 miles of Fairfield, while Ketchum and Sun Valley are 50 miles away. Fairfield does have a public school system for grades K-12 and has an enrollment of approximately 175 students. Featherville, Idaho Featherville is a remote duty location located on the Fairfield Ranger District. If you like living in the woods this is a great spot with many recreational opportunities right out your front door.
