Recipes to Keep The Pipes Flowing Fennel Tea

Flax seed tea is amazing for soothing irritated mucous membranes including the intestines, throat, lungs, kidney and bladder. The volatile oils in fennel help relax the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract and can assist in reducing gas and bloating. (This tea can be made without the fennel also)

Many people are discouraged from making their own flaxseed tea because when heated in liquid, whole flaxseeds will become somewhat gummy and slimy. However, doesn’t happen with ground flaxseeds that are steeped in hot liquid. This unique tea has a rich yet delicate flavor.

2 Tb ground flaxseed (grind whole flax seeds in a grinder) 2 Tb coarsely ground fennel seeds (grind in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle) 2 cups boiling water juice of 1 lemon to taste

• Put the flaxseed meal and fennel seeds into a 2-cup measuring cup and fill with boiling water. Allow to steep about 15 minutes. • Using a fine mesh strainer, pour the steeped tea through the strainer into a tea pot or small pitcher.* • Add lemon and stevia. Makes 1 very large cup or 2 generous teacups of delicious flaxseed tea.

NOTE: If you let the tea cool it will get a little thick. You can reheat it or use it in your smoothies

*Save the ground flaxseed for your smoothies
