9 EU-supported films compete this year in the San Sebastian Film Festival

The 67th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival will take place from 20 to 28 September 2019 in San Sebastian (). The festival will feature some of the current best European and international films, including nine films supported by the EU via the Creative Europe MEDIA programme.

Out of the nine MEDIA-supported films, four are competing for the coveted Golden Shell. The winners will be announced during the award-giving ceremony on Saturday, 28 September.

The Creative Europe MEDIA-supported films selected for the San Sebastian Film Festival 2019 are:

Overall, the EU has invested a total of €976.000 for the development, co-production and distribution of these nine films.

Finally, out of competition, there will be five other MEDIA-supported films presented under the section Movies for Kids. All of them have been supported by the programme for their distribution across Europe and the titles are:

Asterix: the secret of the magic potion by Louis Clichy and Alexandre Astier (France) The incredible story of the giant pear by Philip Einstein Lipski, Jørgen Lerdam and Amalie Næsby Fick () Early man by Nick Park (UK) Ploey: you never fly alone by Árni Ásgeirsson (Island, Belgium) The son of bigfoot by Jeremy Degruson and Ben Stassen (France, Belgium, USA).

European Film Forum: highlighting the cooperation along the value chain

In the context of the festival, Creative Europe MEDIA organises a European Film Forum on Monday 23 September to discuss with audiovisual professionals the increasing importance of cooperation along the value chain in the European audiovisual industry at all levels, from financing the creative process to its distribution and promotion.

Also under the European Film Forum, MEDIA is supporting the second edition of Zinemaldia & Technology and the Zinemaldia Startup Challenge, organised by the San Sebastian Film Festival with the aim of rewarding new business projects addressing innovative solutions for the audiovisual world based on the application of new technologies.
