Instagram, commonly called IG or Insta, is an American social networking service where users are allowed to share photos and videos and exchange messages and video calls. The application was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and released on 6th October 2010. It was acquired by Facebook in April 2012 for approximately 1 billion US dollars.

Instagram allows its users to post pictures, videos, and stories with tags, hashtags, and geographical locations. Consumers can use it to connect with people they know and also meet new people online. Users can like, comment, and share other users’ posts. It has an option to set the accounts’ privacy to private or public depending on the users’ wish. Private accounts need to be requested to follow and public accounts are open and can be viewed by any person.

Instagram has more sections called reels and explore where users can watch and also upload their own content. The content can either involve pictures or short videos. Longer videos are posted in the area called IGTV. Users can save the content they like in a private space called Saved posts and save them for later. These posts can be viewed whenever they wish to see it again. Instagram is the most popular photo-sharing application among people and has millions of users.
