Podere Il Carnasciale Toscana Carnasciale is situated in the southern Chianti hills in the Valdarno di Sopra region of Tuscany, between Arezzo, Siena and Florence. Founded by Wolf Rogosky, the estate is run today by Moritz Rogosky Moritz and Bettina Rogosky, together with the enologists Marco Maffei and Peter Schilling. Marco Maffei The Caberlot grape was first identified in the late 60´s in an abandoned vineyard near Padua by agronomist Dr. Remigio Bordini. While it has the organoleptic characteristics of Cabernet Podere Il Carnasciale Franc, its ampelographic profile is closer to Merlot, leading us to assume that the loose- I - 52020 Mercatale Valdarno (AR) cluster Caberlot is a natural crossing of the two varieties.The ‘Carnasciale’ vineyard was planted in 1986 and four plots have been planted since, for a total of 3,5ha in production. In the cantina we believe in minimally invasive, hands-off enology, allowing the fruit, the vintage and the characteristics of each vineyard to play the leading roles. After malolactic fermentations in wood, the wines are racked in barriques sourced in Burgundy, 60% new, and aged for 22 months. Each barrel is then tasted to select the most complex wines for Il Caberlot, and the more forward wines for Carnasciale.
