Please join us in the for coffee after the service. TODAY Social Justice Meeting Today, following the 10.00am Cathedral Eucharist, the Social Justice Group will meet. The guest speaker is Tim Snowdon, from the charity Sixty-One, who will share his experiences of prison ministry. All are welcome. Chorister Charity Ride From Saturday 25 May Benji, one of our boy probationers, will be cycling – alongside his mother, Agnieszka – from Bristol to London to raise at least £500 for stem cell treatment for a five year old boy with cerebral palsy. They hope to cover 140miles over four days. Update on our Ordinands As the academic year comes to an end, a look at what lies ahead for our placement students from Trinity College: Emma: As my second year at Trinity and first year at the Cathedral draws to an end, I am tired(!) but excited about what is to come. This summer I will be undertaking placements with the Bristol Minister for the Arts and a local hospital chaplaincy team. After this I am overjoyed to be getting married, and moving into our first home. Come September I look forward to rejoining you for another year, and learning more about the richness of Cathedral life and worship. Thank you for your welcome and support thus far!’ Pippa: Thank you all for this last year, being part of the Cathedral community has been wonderful and I’ll miss it very much. I am going just up the road for my curacy, to Cotham Church and St Paul's Clifton, being ordained at the Cathedral on 30 June, followed by a reception in the Cathedral garden – please do come and share a glass of fizz! Sam: Whilst it is not yet clear where I will be next year, I will primarily be focusing on my doctoral studies as part of my training for ordained ministry before beginning curacy. THIS WEEK Lunchtime Recital The Lunchtime recital series continues on Tuesday 14 May, with a recital by the Carillon Singers. J. S. Bach B Minor Mass On Saturday 18 May, at 7.45pm in , Bristol Phoenix (directed by Paul Walton), the Fitzhardinge Consort (comprising many of the back row members of the choir among their number), the Corelli Ensemble, and solos by two former Lay Clerks, gather to perform J. BEYOND Installation of the Diocesan During the 5.15pm Evensong on Wednesday 22 May, Canon Martin Gainsborough will be installed as our Diocesan Canon. Although Martin will be a Residentiary Canon, his primary role will continue to be Chaplain to the of Bristol. We are looking forward to welcoming Martin back to the Cathedral and hope that many of his friends in the congregation will come along to support him on 22 May. Please pray for Martin in this new ministry. Barbara Brown Taylor On Friday 24 May, after Evensong, join the in conversation with bestselling author Barbara Brown Taylor, discussing her latest book Holy Envy. Tickets are free and you can find out more, including how to register your attendance at the event, on the Cathedral website. Ascension Day On Thursday 30 May at 6.00pm, we welcome back the Melgás Consort to sing a Eucharist on the Feast of the Ascension. Music will include Missa ‘Mille Regretz’ by Cristobal Morales, and the motet Data est mihi omnis potestas by the contemporary composer James MacMillan. GENERAL Summer Placements at the Cathedral Today we will be joined by the Revd Minty Hull and Matt Parsons, both of whom will be undertaking a placement at the Cathedral over the coming months. T-Shirts The volunteers who help polish brass in the Cathedral have asked if anyone has any old T-shirts as they are particularly good for the task. Please leave any unwanted old T-shirts with the Vergers. Thank you. Walsingham Last Call The all-inclusive cost of the four-night pilgrimage to Walsingham, from 2-6 September this year, will be £350 per person.
