TODAY Cathedral Choir On Friday the Cathedral Choir returned from their summer holiday, with Choral Evensong sung by the Lay Clerks. This morning, we welcome new members of the choir on both the front and back rows, admit new choristers into the cathedral choir, and award medals to senior choristers. Mark Lee At this morning’s service we give thanks for the 20 years’ service given to this cathedral by Mark Lee, our Master of the Choristers & Organist. THIS WEEK Slavery Past and Present A panel discussion, including Bishop Alastair Redfern, in the Chapter House, 12 September at 6.30pm. Admission is free. Cathedral Consort Next Sunday the Cathedral Consort returns, and new members of the Consort will be admitted at the Cathedral Eucharist, together with medals given to the Heads of Consort. Social Justice Group The next Social Justice Group meeting is on 16 September. Come and hear the plans for the year ahead. Meet over coffee after the Eucharist and we will convene to the Old Library for an 11.30am start and a 1.00pm finish. All welcome! BEYOND Half Marathon The Bristol Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 23 September. Permits and details of road closures will be available very soon. Community Meeting – Advance Notice The next Community Meeting will take place on Sunday 30 September following the Cathedral Eucharist. All are invited to attend. The Fitzhardinge Dinner The Nave Dinner will take place on Thursday 4 October, and in this centenary year of World War 1, the theme will be Remembrance. Tickets are available from Wendy Pradalie at [email protected], or tel: 0117 946 8184. Price £95 per ticket, or £900 for a table of ten. J’Accuse Tickets are on sale for a special Remembrance screening of Abel Gance’s silent World War 1 classic silent film, J’Accuse (1919), at 6.00pm on Thursday 1 November, accompanied live on the organ by Dr David Bednall. GENERAL Thanks Over the summer all of the choir cassocks and surplices were laundered and refitted for the incoming cathedral choir by a dedicated team of volunteers. Our thanks to Ros De Silva, Vicki Farrell, and Caroline Parker in particular. Bishop of Bristol The Rt Revd Vivienne Faull became our Bishop at the end of June and is already involved in the life of the diocese. She will be formally welcomed and enthroned in October. Please pray for her as she takes on the significant responsibility of a diocesan bishop.
