THIS WEEK Lunchtime Recital The 2020 lunchtime recital series continues at 1.15pm on Tuesday 11 February with a piano recital by Yoon Seok Shin. Admission is free. Senior Schools’ Art Exhibition This year’s celebration of the artistic talent of Bristol’s young people, this year’s exhibition is sponsored by the Royal West of Academy (RWA) for the first time. The exhibition runs from 13 to 26 February in the Cathedral. South West Silents return to Bristol Cathedral in 2020. The next screening, on Thursday 13 February, is Das Cabinet des Dr Caligari, Robert Wiene's classic of German Expressionism, with live organ improvisation from David Bednall. Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions) and are available from getawriggleon.com. Doors open at 6.45pm for a 7.30pm start. Visiting On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February we will welcome St Mary’s Ecumenical Choir from Shropshire, to sing our choral services while the Cathedral Choir is on half-term. BEYOND Crafty Cathedral Stuck for something to do with the little ones during half-term? Our popular Crafty Cathedral session returns on Wednesday 19 February from 10.00am to noon. The sessions are run on a pay-what-you-feel basis. Ash Wednesday The great 40 days of Lent begins on Wednesday 26 February. The Imposition of Ashes will take place at three services during the day: 8.00am BCP Communion, 12.30pm Said Eucharist, and 6.00pm Choral Eucharist, to include Allegri’s Miserere Mei sung by the Cathedral Choir. Lent Lunches Tickets are now available for the Lent Lunches take place on 1, 8, 15, and 29 March, and consist of home made soup, bread, cheese, fruit, and coffee. £7 per head, or £20 for all four. All proceeds go to Christian Aid. Bishop’s Lent Reflections On Tuesdays in Lent, the , the Rt Revd , will offer a series of reflections on the climate crisis, drawing on the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book 2020 Saying Yes to Life (SPCK Publishing, 2019) by Ruth Valerio. The sessions will take place in the Chapter House at 6.30pm after Choral Evensong. Reading Mark Right Through On Saturday 28 March there will be an opportunity to hear the entirety of Mark’s Gospel read by members of the Congregation. GENERAL The Revd Minty Hull We are delighted to announce that the Revd Minty Hull will be joining our Chaplaincy Team on a part-time basis at the beginning of March. Many of you will remember that Minty undertook an extended placement at the Cathedral in 2019. We look forward to welcoming her back! Night Shelter In February we will be hosting the Bristol Churches Winter Night Shelter (BCWNS) again. Thank you to all those who have donated clothes and/or toiletries. We do not need any further donations at this stage. undivided In 2020 this series of talks and lectures looking at politics and the church in the current climate continues. We will be inviting distinguished speakers with theological expertise to help us reflect on today’s world and explore how the Church might be part of the solution given the challenges we face. Some of the talks will take place in the Cathedral (6.30pm after Evensong) but we are also looking to co-host the series with other venues in Bristol and elsewhere.
