These funds, which were allocated annually, were not directed to a particular project but rather provided my salary and a support base for the entire research group.

R01 GM45190 Modrich (PI) 4/1/1992 - 2/28/2019 NIH/NIGMS Enzymology of Eukaryotic Mismatch Repair: These studies established molecular features of mismatch repair in human cells, documented inactivation of the pathway in Lynch syndrome and certain sporadic cancer cells, clarified its involvement in DNA damage signaling, and provided potential molecular insight into its mode of action in (CAG)n/(CTG)n triplet repeat expansion.

P01 CA092584-01 Tainer/Coope r (PI) 9/1/2001 - 8/31/2016 Subproject 5 Mismatch repair interactions, Modrich Project Leader NIH/NCI Structural Cell Biology of DNA Repair Machines, Subproject 5. This Subproject, which also involved the laboratories of L. Beese (Duke University) and R. Kolodner (UC San Diego), addressed the structural nature of human and yeast mismatch repair proteins, as well as structural analysis of multi-protein mismatch repair complexes.
