DESCRIPTION:

The professional papers of Richard B. Morris (1904- ), Qouvemeur Morris Professor of History at , relating to his researches into various aspects of American legal history. The correspondence, numbering several thousand pieces from 1925 on, but mainly in the 1930's and 1940fs, consists primarily of material relating to publications he edited or proposed for the Legal History Committee of the American Historical Association, of which he was the sScretary. Also included in the collection are the notes, drafts, proofs and memoranda of his writings, as well as correspondence pertaining to the activities of the American Historical Association and other learned societies•

*The Peacemakers received the Bancroft Award in 1966. It was also a runner-up for the National Book Award and received the award of the Pulitzer Prize Jury in 1966, although the Advisory Board saw fit to override the Jury's verdict.
