Cathedral Choir Happenings This weekend we welcome Daniel Romero as guest organist while our Director of Sacred Music, Phil Bordeleau is out of state, performing. Daniel will be featured on our upcoming Bosetti Concert Sunday June 9th playing the cathedral's organ in a concert of Pentecost music. See information on this elsewhere on the music page.

The Cathedral Choir has a very special honor upcoming. The Cathedral Choir will sing a service of “Compline ” to close a three day convention of church musicians from around the country on July 10 th in the cathedral. So upcoming weeks for Summer choir will be two phased: the first half of summer will be the special solemnities each weekend in June singing for Ascension, Pentecost, Trinty Sunday and Corpus Christi, then showcasing the sounds of the choir in tbe compline event. Weekends from mid July through August will be low key yet thoughtfully selected works for smaller choral forces as sum- mer travels are ongoing. During summer months we encourage those whose normal schedules Sept - May, might be too constrained for participation. Contact Phil Bordeleau for more information [email protected]

Bosetti News For Sunday, June 9 th , the celebration of Pentecost will feature Denver -area organist , Daniel Romero in a program highlighting melodies for Pentecost. This concert is enti- tled, “Veni Creator Spiritus: Music for Pentecost ”. Daniel is concluding his graduate study in organ at this time and has been organist at the cathedral in various capacity on a number of occasions. He has also been organist at Catholic and Episcopal churches around the community.

Wednesday evening, July 10 th , a very special programming takes place with the concert played by Marie -Bernadette Dufourcet -Hakim. This French organist, underwritten by the Cathedral Basilica, will be the final concert for the American Guild of Organist ’s regional convention . This gala concert will be open to the general public in addition to those in attendance for the convention. At the conclusion of the concert, a service of compline will take place featuring the Cathedral Choir and Fr Ron in an extraordinary evening closing the gala taking place in the cathedral. Like the organ concert by Dufour- cet -Hakim, this service of compline will also be open to the public.

Our final Bosetti Concert for summer will be Sunday August 18 th , with Ken Mervine in concert. Ken has played concerts all over the country and has presented concerts on the Bosetti Series annually. His program August 18 th will be featuring melodies in honor of the BVM, (Celebrated on August 15 th for Assumption) played upon the pipe organ.

Contemporary Choir

The Sunday evening mass at 6:30 pm has a new look and feel in recent weeks. We welcome Tony Dominick as our new pianist. Tony has sung with both the Cathedral Choir and the 6:30 singers for the past year. His graduate s tudies in music, coupled with his fine musicianship as a singer and pianist creates a perfect blend of talent for our group. A recently engaged singer who is currently staffing as one of our quartet members is Sean Stephenson. Sean is finishing up his doctorate in music and brings a fresh face, replacing Tony who now serves at the keyboard. Having this talent available now allows special choral selections to be sung at offertory. Many thanks to Eric Brandenburg for overseeing the regular, weekly participation of all the assembled forces each Sunday evening. We continue to seek and out and work to program instrumentalists and singers at the 6:30 Mass. Contact Eric at [email protected] .

St. Paul said, “No! ” The more conservative Jews in Jerusalem said, “Yes! ” You can imagine the televised debates and internet sniping that would go on today. But the Holy Spirit filled this infant Church with an open heart. A Council was called. The problem was set out. Then experience was called upon. Paul talked about the huge response to the gospel in the Gentile lands. Peter told the remarkable story of the conversion of the family of Cornelius, the Gentile centurion (Acts 10) that changed his mind about who ’s in and who ’s out. Experience and compassion ruled the day. The Church spread like wild fire. Imagine a Church without Gentiles like St. , and St. Teresa of Calcutta. And you.

What experience have you had that changed a conviction you used to have?
