Cathedral Choir Happenings This is TRINITY SUNDAY. Anticipating a smaller choir for this Sunday, the beauty of chant and organum is featured during the offertory selection as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. “ O Lux Beata Trinitas, ” is one of 12 hymns that the Benedictine authors believe undoubtably was authored by St. . It can be found in his Treatise of 857 De unâ et non trinâ Deitate . The hymn was universally used as a Saturday Vespers hymn. The allusions to the setting sun and the Holy Trinity, allude to its use as a Vespers hymn. Hearing our choir sensitively chant it on Holy Trinity brings us back to the moments over one thousand years ago when St. Ambrose, ruminating on the setting close of day and the singing of the office for evening prayer, would have written this. As summer forges ahead, we invite singers to participate on Sundays with the regu- lar members of the Cathedral Choir. If you have an interest in either an interim singing commitment, or an ongoing one, contact our Director of Sacred Music, Phil Bordeleau at [email protected] , or call the cathedral office at 303 -831 -7010. Re- cordings of the Cathedral choir can be heard on the music ministry page of the Cathe- dral ’s website.

Bosetti News SPECIAL TIME AND DAY! Wednesday evening, July 10 th , a very special programming takes place with the concert played by Marie -Bernadette Dufourcet -Hakim. This French organist, underwritten by the Cathedral Ba- silica, will be the final concert for the American Guild of Organist ’s regional convention . This gala concert will be open to the general public in addition to those in attendance for the convention. At the conclusion of the concert all are invited to a service of choral compline to take place, featuring the Ca- thedral Choir and Fr Ron in an extraordinary evening. Compline will close the three -days -long convention of musicians here in the Cathedral. Like the organ concert by Dufourcet -Hakim, this service of compline will also be open to the public.

Our final Bosetti Concert for summer will be Sunday August 18 th , with Ken Mervine in concert. Ken has played concerts all over the country and has presented concerts on the Bosetti Series annually. His program August 18 th will be featuring melodies in honor of the BVM, (Celebrated on August 15 th for Assumption) played upon the pipe organ.

Contemporary Choir The Sunday evening mass at 6:30 pm continues its ministry with the fine musicians creating worshipful, meditative song. We are pleased to have Daniel Romero again at the piano this weekend, having previously been accompanist of the 6:30 Mass a couple weeks back, as well as having presented a powerful and dynamic Pentecost Concert on the organ as part of the Bo- setti Series. Daniel is a native of Denver, and enjoys playing classical pipe organ, theater style pipe organ playing, light classic and contemporary stylings on the piano as well as sacred mu- sic for the liturgy. He continues his graduate studies in music, coupled with his fine musician- ship as a singer and provides a perfect blend of talent for our group. Having this talent availa- ble now allows special choral selections to be sung at offertory. Many thanks to Eric Brandenburg for overseeing the regular, weekly participation of all the assembled forces each Sunday evening. We continue to seek and out and work to program in- strumentalists and singers at the 6:30 Mass. Contact Eric at [email protected]

It wasn ’t a hard leap for these Jewish men to move towards the understan ding of God as Three. They intimately knew the Father through their lives steeped in the stories of the Old Testament. They had personally experienced the Son (albeit through Saul ’s post -resurrection vision on the road to Damascus), and they de- pended every day on the comfort and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It just makes sense that the God in whose image we are created would be more than one Person. We all are.
