Your Story About Your Hobby - Collections
(This should be apart of your Collections Notebook)
Tell about your hobby. Your story should tell how and why your collection was started. Tell where you keep your collection at home.
Advanced may want to tell about the history of your items and how you hope to continue your collection.
One of my hobbies is collecting. My family and I are huge Disney fans! In February 2020, we ventured to Disney World for the third time. We were awfully excited to return to Disney World after not being there for ten years! I decided for my collection this year that I wanted to display Disney
Pins. While in Disney, I selected many pins from different locations.
My family's pin collection was actually started in 2004, when my family first went to Disney World. At the time, I was only a baby. Over the years, we collected more pins and grew to love Disney even more! Our pins were on Disney lanyards until recently I put them in a display case. I have done the collections project my whole 4-H career and think it is a great project! I hope to continue this collection by acquiring new pins on our next trip to Disney World!

Mickey Mouse & Friends
Mickey Mouse first debuted on November 18, 1928 in Walt Disney’s animated cartoon talking picture, “Steamboat Willie.” The rest of his animated companions came along in the years after. Mickey Mouse and his pals have become a household name all over the world. Today, there are
Disney Parks in America, Paris, China, just to name a few and I’d say that is quite the accomplishment.
At the beginning of the pin collection, we only had Pluto, Huey Duck and Louie Duck. We were missing the main characters! When we went back to Disney in February, we made sure to complete the Mickey and
Friends set.
The Lion King
The Lion King is a classic tale of love, family, sacrifice, and the everyday struggles of life. Not only did young Simba want to be a normal kid but he has to learn what it takes to be King of Pride Rock.
The Lion King is famous for the unfortunate death of Simba’s father,
Mufasa, and the motto, “Hakuna Matata.” Timon and Pumbaa teach us that we shouldn't be stressed about life and to have Hakuna Matata, which means no worries. The Lion King was created in 1994 and is one of my family’s favorite Disney films. Our Lion King Pin Collection started in 2004, which was my family’s first time in Disney.
Disney Parks
Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios should sound familiar to you. They are the four Disney Parks in Disney
World Florida, USA. Walt Disney World Resort and Magic Kingdom Park opened for the first time on October 1, 1971! The Most Magical Place On
Earth is home to my favorite Disney princess, Cinderella.
Epcot opened October 1, 1982 and is home to the famous Soarin’
Around the World ride (if you are scared of heights, I don’t recommend this ride). Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened May 1, 1989, where the toys from Andy’s room run free in Toy Story Land. Disney’s Animal KIngdom opened April 22, 1998, where live animals can be seen on the Kilimanjaro safari. Disney Resorts
Pop Century Resort opened December 14, 2003, just months after I was born! My family stayed in this resort when we went to Disney in 2009.
We loved how there were statues of characters everywhere! It was the perfect place for little kids to stay!
For our 2020 trip, we stayed at the Art of Animation Resort. It was so cool! The resort opened in May 2012, so it is fairly new. This resort is huge with many sections. There’s The Little Mermaid, The Lion King (where we stayed), Cars, and Finding Nemo. The decoration and detail of the place was spot on! I definitely recommend going there!
Disney Princesses
I’ve been a Disney Princess fan my whole life! Cinderella has been my favorite princess my whole life as well. Snow White was the very first princess made and the film debuted February 4, 1938. The Disney
Princesses are known for their fairytale endings and pretty dresses.
When I was little, I owned most of the dresses and played dress-up all the time. Disney has added several new princesses to the cast since then. I highly recommend meeting as many princesses as you can in
Disney World. One of my favorite parts of the Disney Princess movies, besides the songs, was how they always encouraged young girls to be themselves and be kind to all people.
Toy Story
Toy Story 1 was released in 1995 and has received many good reviews. There are a total of four Toy Story films now! My family has also loved Toy Story over the years, especially my youngest sister. One of my favorite parts of Toy Story is how loyal Woody is.
And how the movies teach us that “Friendship will never die” and
“You’ve got a friend in me.” I think these are important things to remember.
It was really fun to meet the toys again in Disney world. This time they were walking around Toy Story Land and we went up to them to take pictures.
But, the best part of Toy Story Land is the Toy Story Mania ride! It is very popular and fun!
Miscellaneous
The rest of the pins in my collection are miscellaneous. They are a mix of Disney, Pixar, Disney Pixar, Star wars, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
But if I had to choose one of my favorite pins in this category, it would be
Maleficent because she is my favorite female Disney villain.
