Lutherstadt Wittenberg – the place where it all began – will honor the Great Reformer with the national special exhibition “Luther! 95 People – 95 Treasures”. This two-part exhibition brings you face-to-face with thrilling moments in Reformation history in an authentic location. is one of the few people that can be described as having truly changed the course of history. The first part of the exhibition tells the stories of 95 people who were directly affected by Luther’s work, while the second part focuses on the Great Reformer’s tangible heritage, featuring exhibits that Luther himself once saw or used.

Every year, Lutherstadt Wittenberg winds the clock back 500 years on the days surrounding on 31st, its marketplace and historical courtyards coming alive with jugglers, musicians, and craftspeople. Lectures and festival church services complete the event program. Get swept away on a journey to the Middle Ages!

3 ANNIVERSARY YEAR 2017 EXPERIENCE REFORMATION HISTORY FIRST-HAND

Kirchentag 2017 will be something to remember, when Lutherstadt Wittenberg and seven other cities in central Germany host celebrations worthy of the Reformation’s mighty legacy. As part of the program “Kirchentage on the Way”, these seven cities will serve as attractive spiritual and cultural stops on the way to the celebratory church service in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Rediscover one of Germany’s most significant cultural landscapes as ecumenical worship services, the World Reformation Exhibition, unique concerts and musical events bring the Reformation back to life! Kirchentag and youth camps are also planned to teach young people what it means to trust others and be part of a community.

Scheduled for May 28th, 2017 on the meadow across from Wittenberg’s , an open air church service will be the stunning pinnacle of Kirchentag 2017. Guests will find themselves in the same place where Luther once stood upon first arriving in Wittenberg, complete with a perfect view of the city and the historic Castle Church tower. Experience moving, once-in-a-lifetime moments with other pilgrims and visitors from around the world during the Anniversary Year 2017.

Martin Luther’s 95 Theses were the first stones that started a ripple of change that can still be felt today. This is why the anniversary year won’t put the spotlight on Luther alone, but also on other historical pioneers. Fascinating exhibitions will present the works of Thomas Müntzer and Julius von Pflug, as well as Magdeburg’s historical importance as a center of resistance to the arbitrariness of power between church and state at that time.
