Holy Rosary Church Adult Confirmation

Catholic adults who are active in the practice of their faith but who, for whatever reason, have never received the Sacrament of Confirmation are encouraged to do so. In this Archdiocese, the normal pastoral practice is to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with adults at special Masses throughout the Archdiocese on two occasions: Sunday, and early January at the of the Lord or feasts. Unlike adolescent Confirmation, adult Confirmation formation attempts to integrate more fully the richness of their life experiences by helping them to listen and reflect on how God has faithfully walked with them on their life’s journey. For some adults, this might be at age 20, for others it might be at age 60. Adult confirmation requirements are below. Requirements are:

 18 years old and older, and not in high school

 have received Sacraments of Baptism and Holy ,

 a current copy of Baptism Certificate.

Required texts are a and the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults. Adults interested in preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation should complete the attached Confirmation Information Form and return it to Leann Jerkins at [email protected] to schedule your first conversation. At that first meeting I will listen to your faith journey so far and get to know you. I will address your questions, review the schedule of classes, and schedule your interview before the classes begin.

If you have any questions about the adult Confirmation preparation program at Holy Rosary, please call Leann Jerkins at 281-342-3089 x. 141 or [email protected]

10. What questions do YOU have at this time in your faith journey? Choosing Sponsors The responsibility assumed by a Confirmation Sponsor is not one to be taken lightly, and each Confirmation Candidate is encouraged to choose carefully. The Church requires that Confirmation Sponsors be practicing Catholics who have completed their sixteenth (16th) year, have been Confirmed, have received the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist and who are in good standing with the Church. If a sponsor is married, the marriage must be valid and recognized by the Church. Parents may not be Sponsors for their own children. While spouses are allowed to be sponsors, it is not recommended that they serve in this capacity, since the role of a sponsor is that of being a role model and initiator into the community, and thus different from the role of a spouse.

Confirmation Sponsor’s Role
