Invitation to Elementary, Middle and High-School Educators The Center at Cal Poly Pomona is offering K-12 teachers a rare opportunity for professional development and educational advancement through participation in a conference on , nonviolence and peace, featuring internationally acclaimed experts and panels of engaged educators. The participating teachers will learn about: Gandhi’s life, thought and actions ● Gandhi and the wisdom of learning and leading ● Gandhi and the wisdom of Ahimsa (nonviolence), peace and sustainability ● Integrating Gandhi and King in K-12 curricula ● Ahimsa as a guiding principle for schools ● Ways to integrate conference experiences in classroom teaching. The Center is also providing K-12 teachers at a significantly subsidized cost two units of course credit—upper division course, HST 499 (with letter grade). Requires participation in full conference and submitting a written report. Panelists Recognizing that K-12 educators have a unique and crucial role in building a peaceful and harmonious future, the Center has trained over the last four years more than 75 teachers from all over the country to develop curriculum on ahimsa (nonviolence), social change, and Gandhian wisdom. Several of these teachers will serve on panels at the conference, offering concrete examples of their experiences in bringing ahimsa back to their classrooms and schools. The panelists will include:
